Re: ClueBot NG not reporting to AIV

Hey there,

I got your message about ClueBot NG no longer reporting users to AIV.

While I can no longer directly admin the bot, I've reached out to some of my contacts to find the right person. I'll update you if I learn more. -- SnoFox(t|c) 00:17, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, it seems to be working now SnoFox-- 5 albert square (talk) 23:16, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

UTRS#24200

Hi, my apologies. There has been an edit conflict; I replied thinking the appeal had been released. However, if your enquiry to BH results in any change we can update the appellant but meanwhile the advice I gave will hold the situation. Sorry again. Just Chilling (talk) 20:01, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Just Chilling no worries, I clicked off the page in error, I thought if I released the appeal and then re-assigned it then I could then message the reviewing admin again. As it is neither times did the bot send the message to BH!-- 5 albert square (talk) 22:22, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
There is an issue with the bot messaging the blocking admin. If you click the 'Blocking Admin' button it moves the appeal to the 'On Hold' section but throws up an error message and nothing reaches the blocking admin. I have emailed TParis and asked if it can be fixed. Just Chilling (talk) 22:52, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Ah, there seem to have been a few issues with UTRS Bot recently. It wasn't notifying users last week that their appeals were closed.-- 5 albert square (talk) 23:20, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Simulation12 Sock

I just want to let you know that the Bigteddy1 account was mine at first before it was hacked. The sock user hacked my account by changing both the password and the email and I couldn't get in. That's why the account is compromised. So if you ever get an unblock appeal coming from these accounts. They are coming from him not me! Thank you! --CaptainDanger25 (talk) 14:19, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

How was it hacked?--Bbb23 (talk) 15:09, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
@Bbb23: Not sure, I got an email from MediaWiki back in October of this past year saying both my password and my email had been reset and then the next thing I knew I couldn't log into my account. In these past two days I keep getting all these unblock requests sent to my email. Also using the Henry Danger Wiki email which I am an admin on under Bigteddy. --CaptainDanger25 (talk) 15:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
When someone attempts to reset your password, an e-mail is sent to you. Unless you use the temporary password provided in the e-mail, your password cannot be reset. An account is compromised if someone finds out your password. There is only a limited number of ways to do that. Most frequently it happens when you have a weak password or you use the same password on Wikipedia as you do on social media websites, which are often hacked. I assume you don't know this person? Hopefully, you have taken steps to protect your password better.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:50, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
@Just Chilling: Sorry for the confusion, just tagging you, so you know what is going on as well. --CaptainDanger25 (talk) 16:06, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
@Bbb23: I would respond on what you told me, plus I think I may know the user some of the accounts look similar since I blocked a user under the same name for behavior on the Henry Danger Wiki. The two accounts were Benedictfoos and FullerHouseFan01. --CaptainDanger25 (talk) 16:20, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
No worries CaptainDanger25, I'll also keep an eye on the SPI now I'm familiar with it. Whenever you post there in the future, feel free to tag me and if I'm about I'll take a quick look. I'm not a CheckUser so I can't run their checks etc but I can block based on behaviour. They made another request to UTRS today and got sent packing by myself and Just Chilling. It's strange though that they were able to gain access to your account. An IP tried to do that to mine a while back and I got an email from MediaWiki about it. My security on my laptop has always been excellent but ever since it got stolen in a burglary a couple of years back and then returned to me, it's been first class. You'd have more chance of breaking into Buckingham Palace and mugging the Queen than you would gaining access to my Wikipedia!
CaptainDanger25 have you ever thought about a committed identity?-- 5 albert square (talk) 21:16, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
@5 albert square: What is committed identity And how does it work? --CaptainDanger25 (talk) 18:13, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
@CaptainDanger25: A committed identity gives users a way to prove who was in control of their account when the template is placed on their userpage. Basically, it's a secret string, a group of words and numbers or a phrase that's only known to you. It should include unique information only known to you maybe a phone number, date of birth etc. The string is then processed through a Cryptographic hash function like SHA-2 to generate a unique commitment which you are provided with. You put that in your userspace, I have mine on my userpage. If the account is compromised etc you can email the string you made to the Foundation office and that will then prove that you are the rightful account owner. Once they've verified the string, they can reset the password to allow you to regain control.
You can use this website to help create your string.-- 5 albert square (talk) 23:32, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Request for rev-delete

Could you possibly delete this revision -- [4] -- as it is so obviously a violation of WP:BLP? I don't know much about oversight -- being a (relatively) new user and all -- but after some time of reading about Wiki policies, this should probably be hidden away. Mynamemeansnothing (talk) 19:48, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello Mynamemeansnothing I am afraid I am not an oversighter. I am unable to rev del it because someone already hid the username so that option is now not highlighting for me. You would need to email the Oversight team for this. On this occasion I have done that - hopefully they will pick up on it soon.-- 5 albert square (talk) 20:15, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
It's been   Done - thanks Amorymeltzer-- 5 albert square (talk) 20:56, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

March GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work in January's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles.

March Drive: The month-long March drive is now underway; the target months are October and November 2018. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Sign up here!

Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Miniapolis, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Reidgreg and Tdslk.
