Pinged editors
editIt appears that I unintentionally pinged a lot of people, so if you are here for that, I'm sorry (I intended to leave a clearer and more polite talk page message later). Anyway here is a list of older talk page protections and another with newer ones with an unprotected mainspace article. What I am asking you to do is to find protections relevant to you by searching your username, reconsider if the protection is still needed and leave a comment if you considered the matter and left the protection in place. I'm checking the list from time to time, so if you change the protection on the talk page or the respective article there is no need to reply, I'll just remove the entry when I notice the change. Again, apologies for the ping.176.247.159.174 (talk) 00:09, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

The order is chronological, the list is based on this, without redirects, disambiguations and subpages. Some editors marked as active haven't been seen for some months and other details may be worth double checking before bothering someone or taking any action. The above is intended to be used as a checklist, so you are invited to improve/correct it and if, after reading it you talk to some editor, submit a request to change protection or change some protection, you are invited to add a short desciption at the start of the line (this kind of works, but a better formatting is also welcomed).176.247.159.174 (talk) 02:54, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- The cases where the talk page is protected and the mainspace article isn't seem the most trivial ones and are way more common in this minimal and strange dataset than what I was expecting (I was wondering if some more technical solution to this problem is appropriate or was already later introduced). My understanding is that these cases still require the same procedure as other changes in protection. Sorry if I'm using the "protected/unprotected" expressions instead of more precise ones, but they are shorter and I have the perspective of an IP editor. In general the principe that talk pages shouldn't have a higher level of protetion than mainspace articles looks quite solid.
- When checking for the activity of editors I likely saw retired banners on their user page, not so much in the talk page.
- In general I understand why BLPs may require more protection even in the talk page and this seems to be already considered in the existing process for changing protection levels. 176.247.159.174 (talk) 06:48, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Some more recent ones were for sockpuppetry/block evasion and may make sense if the sock was active only on the talk page. 176.247.159.174 (talk) 22:14, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- Please don't mass ping people like this. It's disruptive. If you have a wide issue, you can take it to WP:AN. But I don't even understand the reason I was pinged. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 22:26, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry, my intention was just to add a link to have it at hand and I didn't realise this would lead to pings. As for the reason, this is about rechecking old talk page protections, you can find the ones related to you just by searching your username and can later mark them as addressed or delete them. Again, apologies to you and anyone who was pinged as a result, I intended to leave one discrete talk page message per editor later. One question, would any link lead to pinging or this depends on user specific settings? 176.247.159.174 (talk) 22:45, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- It appears that these notifications can be opted out, so I will wait some time to see if someone responds to them before posting any talk page messages, guess there's nothing I can do for the disruption already done. 176.247.159.174 (talk) 23:01, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. I've gone and removed the indefinite semi-protection from that talk page. It definitely doesn't need it anymore. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:08, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Never mind, I give up.

This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
