Inaccuracies on the page edit

Hello Wikipedia editors,

I am the editor-in-chief of National Observer, Linda Solomon Wood. I have kept a record of every change I made. I also have kept a record of the entry as I found it. In the history of the edits I learned that this inaccurate page remained in place from October until late December when I discovered it.

I am not sure if that qualifies as 'vandalism' under Wikipedia's terms, but it contained many inaccuracies and whether deliberate or not distorted the publication's history and facts about staff by making statements while leaving out the context for the statements.

To respond to your note below, I am not being compensated for my edits.

This is my previous note

National Observer's page has been expanded by an editor.

Since the edits, which were just brought to my attention, contained inaccuracies, I have gone in and made some corrections.

I'm putting on the record that, this page requires a review. The publication's history is distorted and incomplete. Controversies are not placed in a controversy section as is customary on Wikipedia. Context is not given for the innuendo that National Observer gets major funding and is closely related to Tides Canada (now rebranded). This is false.

National Observer became a member of The Trust Project https://thetrustproject.org this year, after an audit of all of our ethics, accuracy and transparency, so our about page which contains our history and lists our funding-sources has been reviewed and approved by peers. For reference, an in-depth, factual description of National Observer's funding, history and mission is here: https://www.nationalobserver.com/about

It will take time to correct the page according to Wikipedia's standards. My suggestions:

I request that meantime a banner be placed at the top of the entry saying that the facts on the page are in dispute.

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, 174.7.117.152. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page National Observer (Canada), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Ifnord (talk) 20:35, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

December 2020 edit

As previously advised, your edits, such as the edit you made to National Observer (Canada), give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:174.7.117.152, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=174.7.117.152|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Ifnord (talk) 20:36, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Responding to this note: I was not paid to edit the page.

From here, I leave it to Wikipedia editors to ensure this page about National Observer is accurate, contextualized, and does not include innuendo, puts controversies under a controversy section, puts the history of the publication under history (not my personal history which, if included, should be in a section under my name), and does not include defamatory material. Thanks.
