Speedy deletion nomination of The Nantucket Culture

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Nantucket Culture requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. @15blades, you shouldn't be creating Wikipedia pages in article space. I have moved The Nantucket Culture to a subpage in your user space: User:15blades/The Nantucket Culture. Please ask your instructor or your WikiEd coordinator if you have any questions. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:58, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks Bbb23! 15blades, this had several issues.
  1. One was that it had no sourcing to back up claims or show where this is a notable topic. Keep in mind that culture is also a fairly vague term, as it can encompass - or not encompass - many things depending on the individual. The idea of culture is also problematic in that it's often difficult to apply this concept on a local level since many people who do write on the topic of culture tend to look at either a wide, national level or they look at an extremely small level (a handful of individuals or single group within a town/area). It's possible for there to be coverage on the culture of Nantucket, but you'd certainly need to find enough coverage that specifically covered it so that we could establish that it's independently notable of the main article on Nantucket.
  2. The scope of this is also fairly broad. This is sort of a revisiting of the prior note, however this is more just an issue of scope. Keep in mind that the main article on Nantucket already discusses things like whaling, so you need to have a very specific idea of what the article will contain - I would work on compiling a list of what should be in the article. To a degree articles like Culture of India can be of help, but keep in mind that this looks at culture at the national level - some of this won't be available (in reliable sources, anyway) or applicable on a smaller level per se.
  3. Be careful of tone. We must use a neutral tone - this had more of a casual narrative than a formal one and used some point of view statements like calling the settlers courageous.
I hope this helps! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:28, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I saw you got a note for editing and adding stuff on the main Wikipedia site!! Now you have it in just the right place and can work on it without the entire world yelling at you!! So, just keep working in this space until it is ready to go. That step is several weeks away! Professor Anne Hyde
