Robert Sroufe is a scholar with in-depth expertise in sustainability, performance measurement management, supply chains, and operations. Dr. Sroufe is the Murrin Chair of Global Competitiveness at Duquesne University. He is the curriculum lead for the MBA Sustainable Business Practices program at the Palumbo-Donahue Graduate School of Business where he designs and teaches two courses. Winner of numerous research and teaching awards, he has published practitioner, environmental, and business journal articles and multiple books on various sustainability topics. In his research, Professor Sroufe aims to understand what drives sustainability performance and how firms can develop effective environmental management systems to enable the measurement and management of a triple bottom line. Dr. Robert Sroufe is also a highly-respected public speaker and consultant for some of the most well-known companies in the world.

Dr. Sroufe's research focuses on "Environmental Management Systems" defined as the formal and informal systems integrating procedures and processes for the training of personnel, monitoring, summarizing and reporting of specialized triple bottom line performance information to internal and external stakeholders. These systems have evolved from reactive Environmental Health and Safety systems of the past to proactive, present day Sustainability Operating Systems improving environmental performance, stakeholder engagement, and resource efficiency. Dr. Sroufe is truly passionate about engaged learning via a focus on responsible management of financial, social, environmental, and informational assets.

Teaching Curriculum

His first course entitled, Strategic Sustainability and Models, covers the forces and models driving current decision making while integrating sustainable business practices into operations including Life Cycle Analysis. His second course entitled, Sustainable Tools and Processes for Driving Performance, takes a case-based approach featuring guest speakers covering topics and assignments ranging from the development of a sustainability management plan for area organizations, to energy management systems, and a Leading Electric and Environmental Design (LEED) competition. He is involved in developing and delivering action learning pedagogy within the top ranked MBA Sustainable Business Practices program, producing future change agents.

He utilizes integrated management practices to help decision makers solve problems, improve productivity, increase revenue, find value in existing buildings, evaluate Integrated Bottom Line (IBL) performance, and enhance competitiveness with a range of enterprises.
