New content

edit

The initial Chartered Professional Accountants Act received Royal Assent on May 11, 2015, while the relevant provisions relating to the use of the new designation came into force on July 1, 2015. [1] For the next 10 years, previously designated professional accountants in Nova Scotia are required to use both the CPA designation and their legacy designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) in the following format:

First Name and Last Name, CPA, CA

First Name and Last Name, CPA, CGA

First Name and Last Name, CPA, CMA[2]

Note: This new content will be placed in Section 2.6 of the original Chartered Professional Accountant article, under the Implementation in Nova Scotia heading.

Search strategy

edit

Main search tools used include:

  • Google Search Engine
  • Business Source Premier: EBSCO Database
  • Relevant online magazines
  • Wikipedia
  • Novanet

For the passage I have chosen to cite, Google and online magazines have been the best sources of information. Where the Act only fully came into effect on July 1, searching databases like Business Source Premier: EBSCO did not yield many results. There is a fair amount of information on this topic available online from reputable sources (Government of Nova Scotia, Chartered Professional Accountants Canada, etc.).

Mount Saint Vincent University

By 1912, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul recognized the need to offer greater opportunity through university education and adopted a progressive[clarification needed] plan to establish a college for young women. It was two years later, in 1914 that the Sisters partnered with Dalhousie University, enabling Mount Saint Vincent to offer the first two years of a bachelor's degree program to be credited toward[clarification needed] a Dalhousie degree.

Implementation in Nova Scotia[edit]

Unlike other jurisdictions, Nova Scotia decided not to amalgamate its legacy accounting bodies into the new CPA provincial body. It has instead declared that members of the legacy bodies must pair their legacy designation with the new CPA designation. In a news release (subsequently affirmed during debate on the bill's second reading),[72] the Province noted that this was the first of two steps in the process, with merger of the three accounting bodies and updating the regulatory framework taking place at a later date.[73] The initial Act received Royal Assent in May 2015, with the relevant provisions relating to the use of the new designation coming into force in July 2015.

Observations

edit

I selected these articles by following the Choosing an article .pdf provided by Wikipedia. On July 1, 2015 legislation passed in NS so some of this information is outdated. There is verifiable information available that is neutral. I'm in BUSI 4426 Advanced Cost now and part of the course is writing a short paper on the topic, so I may be able to add some addition information under the NS heading. The MSVU page is not directly related to my degree, but there is some confusion on the talk page surrounding if men can enrol here (I think we need to fix this).

I will be making minor edits and adding citations to Sobey School of Business because I am interested in learning about and potentially pursing the MBA (CPA Stream) graduate program.
