Background: Noritaka Tatehana, famous for creating the “no heel” heel shoe where popular artist, Lady Gaga was wearing in one of her performances. Born in 1985, in Tokyo a city called Kamakura, Tatehana graduated from Tokyo University of the arts and graduated with his bachelors degree. His family comes from the business of running a public boathouse called “Kabuki-yu”. Tatehana has shown his art in Japanese fashion for over 30 years now.

Heel-Less shoes

Noritaka Tatehana has persisted in fusing elements of traditional Japanese culture into his works, even outside of his heel-free footwear. 'Hairpin Series' (2014–2019) reimagines the intricate hairpins of oiran at an exaggerated size as sculptures wrapped in unique patterns that resemble abstracted gates or butterflies. What I have noticed is that his art seems to be acrylic and have a pattern of using cloud art. All of his painting are all handmade and seem to be worth a lot of money.
