Hello! My nom de plume is xtrump. I just discover wikipedia (May 2005) and so far enjoy browsing and have even contributed a couple of entries.
Bio edit
I was born in 1942 on a farm some 80 km north of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. My primary school education took place in a one room school house 2 miles from our farm, where grades one to nine were all taught by a single teacher in one room. (The traditional "little red schoolhouse" of rural North America during the 19th and early part of the twentieth centuries).
I graduated from Carstairs High School in 1960 and the next year attended the University of Alberta, Edmonton, enrolled as a student in the Engineering Faculty.
This ended my formal education as I dropped out the following year to take a job working in the oil industry. My first job was as a "doodlebugger" a sobriquet for a seismic exploration crew member. So called because the seismic exploration method of the time consisted of drilling a hole (as the doodlebug does) to a depth of 15 to 30 meters and setting off a dynamite charge.
I later worked in the oil and gas processing industry, eventually becoming a commissioning specialists, (one who commissions and starts up new processing facilities). These duties have taken me all over the world, namely Iraq, Saudi Arabia, USA, Malaysia, Japan, Qatar, Thailand, India, Venezuela and Australia. I retired earlier this year (2005) and now make my home in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Interests & Hobbies edit
I enjoy golf (duffer class), curling, and social bridge. I'm also an avid reader. I especialy like reading history but also enjoy well written fiction.
