Sacks alongside the road in cities and towns are more vulnerable to road traffic accidents

edit

Our hearts normally sink to see an increasing number of shacks being constructed very close to roads, within even 20m from the road. These shacks are more vulnerable to road traffic accidents as they are not protected by the outer shell of vehicles and they can be bumped and destroyed by traffic if driver happen to lose the control of their vehicles. It is like the nation does not understand the bad impacts of staying very close to the road.

Most of people who are staying in those shacks believe, it is their best ever opportunity to get better employment. But it is senseless because most of people who are staying there are uneducated and they are not specialized for any job. We also don't think it is helpful for those people to sacrifice their lives in employment opportunities, rather than keeping their lives safe by staying in rural areas away from roads. The other thing that I realise to be the reason as to why these people are staying there, is that peolpe are more hungry of money and they don't want to go stay in those medium expensive houses where it is much more safe.

The only thing must be done to reduce this growing number of shacks alongside the road, is that Road Authority must provide spercial education to make people aware about the negative impact of staying very close to the road. This can also be redused by enforcing laws and regulating so that people will be threatened to stay there. Peolpe must also forced to move away at least a half killometer from the road to reduce fatallities.

This reveals to us the accident that happened on 24 August 2010, in Windhoek, Otjomuise whereby a Runaway bakkie kills a child and destroys shacks[1]
