Miroslav Bako (Serbian: Мирослав Бако) (born October 7th 1982 in Belgrade, Serbia) is a Serbian American ballet and film composer, sound designer and music producer based in New York, US. Known for his works with National Theatre Belgrade[1], Opera and Theater Madlenianum[2], Theater St.Gallen, Sergei Polunin, Kemal Gekić and Ravenna Festival[3]. Bako achieved his Master of Arts degree in Sound Design from University of Novi Sad, and Bachelor Of Arts degree in music production.

Notable Works edit

After producing scores for three theatrical plays based on movement theater in Stara Pazova from 2011 to 2016, he met Ronald Savković in 2016, a choreographer from Croatia, and started working on Caligula ballet based on Albert Camus novel. The ballet was produced by Konzert Und Theater St. Gallen[4], Switzerland, choreographed by Ronald Savković, with North-Macedonian costume designer Aleksandar Noshpal[5]. Ballet premiered in October 2017 at Locremise in St.Gallen. Bako wrote this 60-minute piece in 2017.

Dictionary Of the Khazars - The Dreamhunters[6] was the first ballet which Bako wrote for National Theatre Belgrade. The play was co-produced by Opera and Theatre Madlenianum[7] and premiered on May 19th, 2018, at National Theatre Belgrade and May 24th, 2018, at Opera and Theater Madlenianum.[8] Ballet was based on Milorad Pavić's novel Dictionary Of The Khazars and was initiated as jubilee performance for 150 years of National Theatre in Belgrade and as that was approved by Legacy of Milorad Pavic . The ballet was directed by Livia Pandur, with choreography by Ronald Savkovic, set design by Sven Jonke and costume design by Angelina Atlagić[9]. After premiere ballet was performed in Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad, and also as a part of South American tour ballet was performed in Columbia and Ecuador[10]. His second ballet in the National Thater Belgrade was Seven Deadly Sins[11] which premiered on February 9th, 2021, at National Theatre Belgrade. Ballet was choreographed by Igor Pastor and 45-minute music score was written by Bako in 2020.


DANTE METÀNOIA by and with Sergei Polunin[12], was jubilee piece for 700 years after death of italian poet, philosopher and writer Dante Alighieri. Commissioned by the Ravenna Festival and Cristina Mazzavillani Muti[13], ballet was based on the Alighieri's poem The Divine Comedy and, as the book, included three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso with solo dance performance by Sergei Polunin in all three parts. Bako was the lead composer on the Inferno piece for which he wrote 50 minutes score based on the original Dante's Inferno and, accompanied by piano performances by Croatian American virtuoso Kemal Gekić[14].

2019. Bako composed score for short movie 19 Schaffarik Street (2019)[15][16], directed by Lana Pavkov[17]. Film was commissioned by Film Center Serbia[18] and premiered at 47. International Film Festival[19] - FEST in 2019. Bako was also lead sound designer, 5.1 mixer and foley recorder on the film.
