OA5 ("Out At Five") is a company model suggested by Scott Adams in his book The Dilbert Principle [1]

This model focuses on the fundamentals of business, like improving the product or talking to customers (as opposed to "one level removed" activities).

Making sure that everybody leaves work by five o'clock helps employees to stay focused and make the most of their time at office.

Other suggestions in this model:

  • let the employees decide how to decorate their workspace, which equipment to use, how to dress...
  • "let them know that creativity is okay and get out of the way"
  • keep away disrespectful people
  • create an environment that supports curiosity, where employees learn something every day
  • lead by example in being efficient. Keep meetings short (encourage getting to the point), discard low-priority activities...
