Saint Cross Church, Bieganowo - brick parish church in Bieganowo in Kołaczkowo commune, in wrzesiński district.

History and description

The church in Bieganowo exist from about 1210. For the first time it was built by deserved descent Bieganowski. At that time it was a wooden temple, named "All Saints" church.

About 1729 then squire Franciszek Kowalski crest of Korab, began to built a new church, because the previous one was in ruins. Temple was built on tower of the east side. In 1731 bishop of Poznan Jan Tarło consecrates it.

The title of the church mentioned in first visitation from 1737 by archdeacon of Poznań Kacykowski, is: "under the invocation of the Raising Saint Cross". However, in documents from II visitation, conducted by the bishop Franciszek Ksawery de Wrbna Rydzyński in 1777, the temple was entitled as: "Finding of the Saint Cross".

About 1799 the temple was in ruins. Then parish priest Mateusz Borowicz, with the parish patron (protector) Jan Bronisz, and parishioners, proceeded to total rebuilding uf the church. From the outside, it's walled. It was Erected a new massive tower. Inside was still wooden.

In 1926 interior of the church was renovated by a new patron Edward Grabski.

During the Nazi occupation church in Bieganowo was closed. After the war in 1945, when the church was reopened, proved to be, that it was destroyed by dry rot. Unsuccessfully struggled with it. Church building slowly decayed.

On the night of 1 on 2 1982, about 11:45 PM fire broke out. The building burned down in about 30 minutes. Only the tower survived. After the burning of the church liturgy, with the consent of church and state, were held until 17 July 1982 in the common room of the local state-owned farms. March 15, 1982 put the first element of the construction. Rebuilding of the temple was made possible by the work of parishioners, and also help State Farm director Bogumił Paul. The church was rebuilt on new foundations. The tower, which is the only survivor, has been restored. April 21, 1982 bishop Józef Glemp, who later became the Polish Primate, assisted by bishop Jan Czerniak laid the foundation stone in the recess of the church of peak side. there was also placed a brass tube with the documents. Already July 17, 1982 restoration of the church was completed. June 25, 1984 Primate Józef Glemp solemnly consecrated fully equipped church.

Memory place

In tower behind the memorial tablet of 1982 were entombed remains of the parish priest, Fr. Stanislaw Musial, who was murdered in the Dachau concentration camp in 1940 and whose body was sent back to the family by the Nazis.
