Distribution of skelleftemål in Västerbotten county(orange)

Skelleftemål or skelleftebondska ("sjeletmaLe", "sjeletbonnska" also "sjellet-" in dialect) is a norrland dialekt spoken in northern Västerbotten. Skelleftemål is spoken in the areas around Skellefteälven (Skellefteå, Norsjö, Malå and Arvidsjaurs municipalities). The dialects spoken in the coastal regions close to Piteå kommun tend to gradually change to pitemål. In the industrial towns there usually arose a mixed-language because of people moving in from many different areas. Standard swedish have had a noticable effect on the sentence structure, grammar and lexicon in these mixed-languages. Loanwords from various dialects occured.

The dialekt is closely related to the surrounding dialects on the west and north bothnian coast, and many similarities exist with east bothnian, jamtish and other southern norrland dialects. [[Category:Skellefteå Municipality]] [[Category:Swedish dialects]]
