The Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak better known as IIM Rohtak , is a school of management located in Rohtak, Haryana. Rohtak is a municipal council located in Rohtak District in the Haryana state of India on N.H. 10, 71 km from Delhi.^[1]

The 11th five year plan endorsed by the National Development Council in December 2007, envisaged the establishment of seven new IIMs. It is aimed at generating a highly competent and trained manpower, the institutes are also expected to act as a major catalyst for developing a knowledge society that would inevitably impact on the economic growth of the country. IIM Rohtak is one of the seven new IIMs that was approved by the Union Cabinet on August 27 2009 and is north India’s first IIM.IIM Rohtak is being mentored by IIM Lucknow in its formative years and is following a case based method of pedagogy. The current faculty is from IIM Lucknow and Dr. Devi Singh, Director of IIM Lucknow, is the acting Director of IIM Rohtak.^[2]

Inauguration edit

IIM Rohtak started functioning with a total strength of 50 students on June 30 2010. It was formally inaugurated on the same day by Mr. Ravi Kant, Vice Chairman of Tata Motors Ltd, in the presence of eminent faculty of IIM Lucknow and board members. Mr. Ravi Kant is the first chairperson of the board of governors of IIM Rohtak.^[3]^[4]

Campus edit

The Campus for the new IIM is under construction at village Garnwati in Rohtak. The location was selected after considering factors like easy accessibility and scope for further development. About rupees 250 crores is being funded by the central Government of India to develop this project. The Temporary Campus is at the newly constructed block of Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak. A memorandum of understanding was signed between IIM Rohtak and MDU for the utilisation of physical infrastructure of MDU by the IIM . The students of IIM Rohtak have access to most of the facilities of MDU.^[5]

Class Rooms edit

The Class rooms are in the newly constructed humanities department building which is completely dedicated to IIM Rohtak. Each class room is air conditioned and has a maximum strength of 50, with state of the art facilities.

Programmes edit

The Post-Graduate Programme is a two year program of IIM Rohtak. The programme intends to produce world-class managers by exposing them to real life unstructured situations along with knowledge about analytical tools and business philosophies which will help them in the real business world.^[6]
