Journalist KJ Singh Sanghera aka Karanjeet Singh Sanghera was a veteran media-person who was a Masters in English from Panjab University, Chandigarh. KJ Singh was a bachelor who lived with his 90-plus mother, Gurcharan Kaur, in Mohali. He had his origins in Bilga and the family had moved to the city in early 1970s.
BIRTH
KJ Singh was born to Gurcharan Kaur and Major G B Singh, a prominent family in Bilga; Singh also spent his initial years in Rohtak and Chandigarh.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
The veteran newsman had worked with the Indian Express in Chandigarh and Mumbai for 22 years (1978-2000) and the Times of India, Chandigarh, for five years (2000-2005). He also worked with The Tribune (Chandigarh) for 2.3 years (2006-2009) as a Chief News Editor.
From May 2005 till November 2006; March 2009, post-TOI and Tribune, KJ Singh was a well-known Media Start-up Advisor, and brought out upmarket magazines for private media entrepreneurs in Features, Health and Pharmaceuticals. KJ Singh operated a creative studio which offered editorial start-up advice on new publications. He was involved in the re-branding process, worked on fine-tuned and self-designed print media for some mid-level pharma and info-tech companies keen on securing a pan-India presence.
The journalist had always displayed a convert’s passion for work, especially for new projects, and a very good knowledge of all functions connected with the production of a newspaper. His work involved generating ideas for news and sports specials, features pages, and benchmarking of the print media. KJ Singh had ramped-up editorial operations, including processing, selection and sharp editing of news and pictures, and even worked on ensuring an up to date page design patterns.
DEATH
KJ Singh and his mother Gurcharan Kaur were reportedly brutally murdered inside their home in Mohali on the night of September 22. Their bodies were discovered the next day. While KJ Singh suffered multiple stab wounds, reports had suggested that his mother was strangulated. After investigation, police had arrested a man from UP for having committed the crime. [1] [2]
