Greetings. A short bio may help give context to my Wikipedia editing work.

I was born in Wallasey, UK, and educated at Oxford, University of Sussex (BSc Mathematical Physics), and UC Davis (MS and PhD in Physics, MS in Computer Science). I have lived in Northern California since 1988, currently in San Francisco.

Professionally, I am a computer scientist and have worked in the university setting, for a defense contractor, as an individual consultant, and in Silicon Valley startups. Presently I'm Chief Scientist at FireEye (http://www.fireeye.com/) and President of Invicta Consulting (http://www.invictaconsult.com/).

Most of my research has been in the area of computer security, particularly intrusion detection. You can see my publication history at scholar.google.com (http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=stuart+staniford).

In the last three years, I've developed a very strong side interest in energy security. You can read my analyses at The Oil Drum (http://www.theoildrum.com/user/Stuart+Staniford/stories) where I am an editor.

Wikipedia Involvement

edit

I am a founding member of the Oil Megaprojects task force, and have been very involved in the project to list Oil Megaprojects. The goal is to provide the definitive reference list of all oil capacity expansion projects occuring in the world. The project is still at a fairly early stage but is developing very fast.
