NBC News Now is an American free ad-supported news service streaming live news coverage. The service broadcasts and simulcasts live rolling news on weekdays from 4 a.m. ET to 9 p.m. ET with parent organization NBC News’ magazines composing late-evening and overnight programming for the channel. The service is accessible live on YouTube internationally, NBCUniversal-owned Peacock streaming service in both the US and Canada, and on both Sky TV and Virgin Media in the UK.[1]

The service was launched for NBC News on May 29, 2019, under the purview of Janelle Rodriguez, an Executive Vice President for NBC News.[2] NBC News Now is one of three live streaming channels operating under parent organization NBC News — the other two are Dateline 24/7 and Today All Day.

History

The service initially operated without an anchor until they hired Alison Morris, formerly of Fox 5 in New York, starting on July 1, 2019. The OTT services was announced in October 2018 as NBC News Signal with Simone Boyce originally tapped as the evening 7 p.m. ET anchor with two anchors from MSNBC acting as hosts.[3]

During special coverage of the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump, NBC News NOW simulcasted a network-wide NBC News Special Report alongside sister streaming channel MSNBC and the NBC broadcasting network at-large with NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt and NBC News Senior Washington Correspondent and Hallie Jackson NOW anchor Hallie Jackson anchoring coverage on the evening of July 13, 2024, followed by Chris Jansing and Ana Cabrera anchoring overnight, followed by a simulcast of a special weekend edition of The Today Show. NBC News anchors Tom Llamas and Kate Snow continued coverage in the morning, with and Katy Tur, Andrea Mitchell, José Díaz-Balart, Chris Jansing, and Stephanie Ruhle anchoring during the afternoon and evening hours.

  • Meet the Press NOW - 4 p.m. ET
    • Originally on MSNBC before moving to NBC News Now, Meet the Press NOW is the daily extension of NBC’s Sunday morning program, Meet the Press, and examines political news in roundtable discussions with one-on-one interview segments. Anchored by Kristen Welker with Gabe Gutierrez, Garrett Haake, Peter Alexander, and Ryan Nobles serving as guest anchors. Broadcasted from NBC News’ Studio N1 at the network’s Washington D.C. Bureau.
  • Hallie Jackson NOW - 5 to 7 p.m. ET
    • A live two-hour-long fast-paced news broadcast reporting on the latest in news and current events with segments focusing on highlighting underreported stories, global and local news, and the work that goes into producing a report for the streaming channel or for the parent network, NBC News. Anchored by former MSNBC anchor Hallie Jackson and broadcasted from NBC News’ Studio N1 at the network’s Washington D.C. Bureau. Originally a one-hour broadcast but expanded to two hours after Jackson departed MSNBC for NBC News Now.[4]
  • Top Story with Tom Llamas - 7 p.m. ET
  • Stay Tuned NOW - 8 p.m. ET
    • An hour-long newscast anchored by Gadi Schwartz covering the latest news with an emphasis on technology, science, and news on the American Pacific coast; the newscast is a streaming extension of NBC News’ Stay Tuned news brand targeting a Generation Z audience. The show airs live from NBC News’ studios at the network’s Los Angeles, California Bureau.

NBC News NOW programming usually consists of NBC News-produced magazines and programs like Dateline NBC, barring no breaking news that would pre-empt such proframming.
