Season 1 edit

Prior to the group's debut, the first season of Apink News premiered on March 11, 2011. The first season aired for 12 episodes in total and chronicled Apink's debut process.[2] The show birthed from a media leak about an upcoming girl group preparing for debut. In order to desist rumours, the company decided to publicly introduce the group and have them make their debut via their own special documentary variety-reality TV show.[3]

The show takes the form of a half hour news broadcast parody complete with news anchors and an on-site reporter that oversee the proceedings. The news reports are centered around Apink, hence the show's title. The news anchors spend a few minutes informing the viewers of current Apink updates then proceed to keep a close eye on the Apink members through their rigorous training for their debut preparation. The news anchors change weekly with each episode and majority of them are established celebrities from Apink's parent company, Cube Entertainment. Each episode featured a different celebrity guest as its anchorman, including G.NA, Mario, MBLAQ's Seung Ho and G.O, Beast, 4minute, 2AM's Jinwoon, Secret's Sunhwa and Hyoseong.[4][5]

The show includes a special segment to introduce one member in each episode. The one on one segment allows the members to introduce themselves, their backgrounds and show off their talents. Hence, the members get equal exposure and viewers are given an insight on the role each is responsible for within the group. Besides Apink, the show introduces key 'behind-the-scene' personalities who trained the girls for their big day. From their company's CEO to their manager, speech trainers, ballet instructors and dance choreographers.

Season 2 edit

Apink News Season 2 aired from November 25, 2011 until February 2012. In the second season, Apink members replace famous celebrity guests for news anchoring and reporting who did the aforementioned in the preceding season. In every episode, they are given different missions and winners are chosen as the next episode's news anchor and reporter.

In the beginning of Season 2, all members declare their goals they want to achieve and continue to fulfill them throughout the show.[6] Apink opened a one-day charity cafe in Apgujeong-dong, Seoul, and had a meaningful time with their fans. At this one-day charity cafe, the Apink members served their fans food and drinks that they made themselves. In addition, they gave away their prized possessions for auction. All proceeds from the event were donated to charity.[7][8]
