My home town 'Omungwelume' in Owamboland

edit

Omungwelume is a small town in Ohangwena region northern Namibia and is situated 30km north from Oshakati in Ohangwena region.Located about 60km from the Angolan border. It is one of the places of residence of the Queen of Oukwanyama,(currently Queen Mwadinomho, mother to the reigning king lives here). Most of the residents in the town speak Kwanyama.

The landscape is flat, monotonous and dotted with settlements. Mopane, Marula and Wild fig trees turn up occasionally between the fields and the kraals and one can also find Makalani palm trees here (symbol of the Ovambo area). After heavy rains in the region, many little lakes and pond form. The water comes from big Angolan lakes reaching from north to Omungwelume ,as result omungwelume get flooded for the past 3 years and this is the most natural disaster that distract our trasport route beyond repair.

Economic and Development

edit

Omungwelume features a shopping centre and large open market. Many local authorities for the Ohangwena region are placed in the town,e.g Police station,Clinic,Church.Other authorities are placed in Eenhana a town few kilometers from Omungwelume. There are sevearl schools in the town, among them Eengedjo secondary school. Some schools extend farthest from the town - for instance Ongenga junior School.Eengendjo is where I was schooling since 2005-2009.

Since independence, the government has settled up an industry in the north, to create jobs and improve the poor infrastructure.Kayec and Cosdec are the three vocational skills schools training young people in building maintenance, sewing, cooking, and Internet Technology.

Transport

edit

Omungwelume is linked to Oshakati and Oshikango by a tarred road.Residents and car owners cars are often extra cautious and careful ,mostly when crossing and driving in the town, because livestock permission in town are not strictly regulated by the government therefore cattle and goats roam around especially at night.
