Pre-1850 edit

  • July 28, 1748: A tornado traveled northeast from Pepperell, Massachusetts into New Hampshire, destroying many trees and damaging several structures.[1]
  • May 17, 1773: A possible tornado (may have been a microburst) destroyed two barns in Durham before crossing into Maine. A man drowned when his boat was overturned, but it is unclear if this was in New Hampshire or Maine.[1]
  • June 23, 1782: A tornado stormed 10 miles (16 km) northeast from Weathersfield, Vermont, destroying many buildings and trees along its 800-yard (730 m) wide path. The tornado killed at least one person—a child—in Claremont or Croydon; the mother may have died as well. At least two other people were injured.[1][2]
  • July 22, 1785: A possible tornado downed large trees in Bedford.[3]
  • July 14, 1791: A tornado destroyed some barns in Warner.[3]
  • September 5, 1792: A man was carried 60 yards (55 m) and injured by a possible tornado.[3]
  • June 1793: Several barns were destroyed by a tornado near Walpole; the exact date is unknown.[3]
  • July 1793: Part of a roof was torn off a house north of Concord; the exact date is unknown.[3]
  • July 19, 1807: A tornado destroyed a barn near Keene.[4]
  • May 21, 1814: A significant tornado touched down near South Merrimack, destroying houses and barns along a 17-mile (27 km) path northeast to near Chester. A child was killed and his two friends injured when the barn they were in collapsed.[5]
  • August 20, 1816: A tornado damaged houses and barns near Warren. Cows were lifted off the ground by the strong winds.[5]
  • August 4, 1822: A tornado destroyed two barns near Surry.[6]
  • July 1, 1831: A tornado destroyed barns and sheds south of Claremont.[8]

1850–1949 edit

  • July 1, 1877: A tornado traveled 10 miles (16 km) southeast from Gilsum to Nelson, destroying many barns and sheds and unroofing a few homes.[9]
  • July 16, 1880: Moving across the southeast part of Hanover, a tornado damaged a dozen chimneys and unroofed a few homes.[10]
  • May 16, 1890: A man was thrown 150 feet (46 m) and killed when a tornado destroyed his barn in New Market Junction.[11]
  • July 4, 1898: A tornado struck Hampton Beach, a popular resort town. More than 100 people sought refuge in the skating rink, and three people were killed and 120 injured when the roof collapsed. Twenty cottages were also destroyed. A yacht was overturned by the storm, drowning five people, but it is unclear whether this was due to the tornado.[12]
  • July 24, 1911: Several buildings were destroyed southwest of Concord by a tornado.
  • September 15, 1922: A tornado traveled 8 miles (13 km) from Stoddard to Antrim. More than 50 cattle were killed, and two barns were destroyed.
  • September 13, 1928: A tornado cut a 10-mile (16 km) path from south of Troy to West Rindge. Two people were injured as the storm caused $50,000-100,000 USD in damage to homes and barns. Trees up to 3 feet (0.91 m) in diameter, as well as entire orchards, were downed.[13]
  • May 5, 1929: A tornado unroofed homes and factories across downtown Berlin. Subsequent fires added to the damage, which totaled around $300,000 USD.[14]
  • July 23, 1946: A weak tornado briefly touched down in northwest Concord. A young boy was killed when a garage was destroyed. Damage totaled around $60,000 USD.[15]

1950–1975 edit

  • July 19, 1966: An F2 tornado destroyed a barn near Hollis.[17]
  • August 20, 1968: An F2 tornado damaged several structures at a horsemanship training school in Weare.[18]
  • July 3, 1972: An F2 tornado damaged 10 cottages in Gilmanton, two of which were thrown into Loon Pond. Seven people were injured along the tornado's 1-mile (1.6 km) path.[19]
