The Lion & the Mouse

Summary of Older version

The Lion & the Mouse was first told in Aesop's Fables and in this version the lion was woken up by the mouse while the lion was still asleep. The mouse begs for forgiveness and tells the lion that it is not a good enough to be eaten by the king of the jungle. The lion agrees and lets the mouse go, sometime later the lion gets caught in a trap by some poachers and it just so happened that the mouse he spared before was passing by and in seeing the lion caught went to help him get free by gnawing through the net. This is at least how the oldest versions of the story is told.

Morals

There are actually a couple of morals to this story depending on which version has been told. In this version the moral of the story is that mercy brings its reward and that there is no being so small that it cannot help a greater. Another version tells that little friends may prove great friends.

The Lion & the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney

Summary

There is really no difference in the story told by Jerry Pinkney and the older versions of the lion and the mouse. However in Jerry Pinkney's version the story is told entirely though pictures instead of words.
