'The Batch'

The Batch, sometimes known as Old Mills Batch, is a coal mining spoil tip in the shape of a volcano between Paulton and Midsomer Norton on the Somerset Coalfield. It is a notable landmark visible to the inhabitants of a number of local towns and villages, and in recent years that prominence has resulted in it being used for political and other graffiti that has attracted national media attention.

It gives its name to a local listed building, Batch House, and...

It is next to the site of the former national Great Mills DIY chain.

Old Mills colliery operated from 1860-1966; Springfield from 1872-1966
