Laura A. Neuman (born February 3, 1965 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American politician who served as County Executive of Anne Arundel County, Maryland as a Republican.

Neuman was appointed as the eighth Anne Arundel County Executive on February 22, 2013 by vote of the County Council following the resignation of John R. Leopold. She was defeated the following year by Steve Schuh in the Republican primary and left office on December 1, 2014. Previously she was the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Authority for Howard County, Maryland, serving from 2011 to 2013.[1]

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, February 3, 1965, Neuman is married and has two children.[1] Despite not graduating from high school or college,[2] she received an MBA from Loyola University Maryland in 2000 and is a graduate of the Executive Program of the Stanford University School of Business.[1]

In March 2015 Neuman said she had been asked to run in 2016 for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Mikulski and was discussing it with her family[2] but she did not run.

In 2016, Neuman moved from Annapolis in Anne Arundel County to "near Towson" in Baltimore County, saying it was to be closer to extended family and not for political reasons.[3]

In 2018, Neuman was nominated to the Maryland Economic Development Commission by Governor Larry Hogan.[4]

After leaving office as county executive in 2014, Neuman moved away from the Republican Party over issues like abortion rights and same-sex marriage, becoming an independent and then a Democrat.[5]

In January 2022, Neuman declared her Democratic candidacy in the 2022 Maryland gubernatorial election but dropped out before the primary.[6][7][8] She endorsed Peter Franchot.[9]
