Hi, I am from the London Borough of Havering. Unfortunately various media organisations incorrectly put the location of places within Havering as being from Essex. This includes places such as Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and many more.
Perhaps leading to the confusion is that the postal address used by many people and businesses in Havering still includes Essex. Postal addresses are not kept up to date, using Essex can lead to confusion (i.e. using Essex for a postal address would give you a subscription to an Essex newsletter, rather than the version for East Greater London. I would recommend to anybody needing to use a Havering postal address to replace Essex with Havering - it will go to the same address and is, after all, more accurate.
Wikipedia is full of remarks of places of birth and so on that mistake Havering for Essex. This is misleading and I will do my best to correct the inaccurate statements wherever they may be.
