The Tau Delta chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity was founded as a colony at Northwestern University in 1996. It received its official charter on November 11 2000, becoming a full chapter. It continues to exist to this day, and maintains a chapter house at 562 Lincoln Street, Evanston, IL.

History edit

In 1996, the Tau Delta Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded at Northwestern University by ten men who were dissatisfied with the options offered by the Northwestern Greek community. Men, who had no interest in drinking heavily, hazing, or being hazed, were looking for a group in which they could express themselves in a fraternal setting. After much research, they decided that they wanted to start a chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi on Northwestern’s campus. They did so, and the chapter operated off campus until 2001.

In 2001, Alpha Epsilon Pi saw the realization of many of its ambitions. Tau Delta was given a chapter house in the Northwestern Fraternity Quads and full recognition form the Interfraternity Council. During this year, the chapter saw its largest growth since its founding. The chapter was honored with AEPi International’s Chapter Progress Award and Risk Management Award at the annual summer fraternity convention.

For the first time in its history, AEPi participated in the staples of Northwestern Greek life, suchas Homecoming, Gone Greek Night, Maysing, and social events with other fraternities andsororities. Our participation in these events brought a great deal of class to typically raucous Greek activities. We put our best foot forward, even placing second in our first entrance into Maysing.

The chapter began 2002 in the strongest position it had even been in, coordinated a highly organized recruitment in the fall, and built its first successful homecoming float. These accomplishments enabled the brotherhood to meet a fantastic group of freshmen, who became the finest and most cohesive pledge class the chapter had seen. Their pride in AEPi was solidified when the chapter hosted the AEPi Midwest Conclave during winter quarter. During the conference, the Israeli Consul General to the Midwest spoke, and several sororities joined AEPi brothers from around the Midwest for a night in Chicago.

AEPi’s ambitions only increased in the spring, when the chapter successfully organized and hosted the largest Greek philanthropy at Northwestern. The event, known as Dog Days, was amulti-day hot dog selling extravaganza, culminating with a twelve hour concert and coverage ona Chicago radio station. The event raised $6,000 for the American Cancer Society and Chai Lifeline.

During 2003, AEPi gained another strong pledge class and continued its successes in the Greek community. Dog Days made its second annual appearance, raising an additional $6,000 for cancer research. The chapter was honored for its high academic performance, and our freshman class received the distinction of earning the highest Grade Point Average among all forty-one Greek letter organizations at Northwestern.
