Dubai fountain is the center piece of the Downtown Burj Dubai, located at the front of Burj Dubai.Emaar, the developer of Burj Dubai, and Downtown Burj dubai had announced the Dubai fountains in June, 2008, at the expected cost of AED 800 million or USD 218 million[1], which is the total cost of the Fountains lake, the fountain, and its filteration system.The dubai fountain is one of the worlds tallest fountain, and worlds largest fountain, surpressing the Bellagio fountains of Las vegas[2]. The Dubai fountain is 275 meters (902.275 ft) long, which is more than the area of two football fields[3].Dubai fountain is 25 % larger then the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas[4].The Dubai fountains can be seen from over 200 miles away up in space or horizontally if you have a clear line of sight[5].The fountains can shoot to the maximum height of 150 meters, which is equivalant to the 50-storey building or high enough to wash the windows a fifth of the way up the Burj Dubai, but not all the time[6].

The Dubai fountains can spray 22,000 gallons of water in the air at any moment.Lights of 50 colours which are more than 6,600 has been installed in Dubai fountains[7].The Dubai fountains projects water in the air in many different combinations and patterns. The fountain lake has filled the gap between the Dubai Mall, The palace hotel, Souk Al Bahar and The Address Downtown Burj Dubai.The fountains has been designed by the californian based designers WET, who had also designed The Bellogoi fountains, and the Mirage volcano in Las vegas, and other fountains around the world.The Dubai fountain's water and lights projections is mainly controlled by computer wearing anoraks.Each display lasts for 5 minutes.

Dubai fountains performance edit

The Dubai fountains spurt the water in the air with several music themes, as far as the following popular music themes has been played:

  • Baba Yetu-a Swahili song for the computer game "Civilization IV", composed by Christopher Tin.
  • Dhoom Thana a-Hindi song from the film Om Shanti Om.
  • Con te Partiro-(Time to Say Goodbye) - an Andrea Bocelli performance.
  • Sama Dubai-an Emirati song, a tribute by Emaar Properties to Sheikh Mohammed's leadership.
  • Shik Shak Shok-an Arabic dance song by Hassan Abou El Seoud.

Dubai Fountains testing edit

Testing of the fountain begun in March, and April of 2009 and the fountain is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2009[8]. Much of the testing is computer controlled and being done underwater to make mechanical, process and electronic checks. The water jets, connection devices and nozzles has all been tested.The opening ceremony of the Dubai fountains was held on friday 8th May 2009 along with the official opening ceremony of the Dubai Mall[9].


Dubai Fountains naming competition edit

Emaar announced on 1st July 2008 that there would be a competiiton to decide the name of the new fountain in lake of burj dubai, with a first of AED 100,000 which is only for residents of Dubai[10]. Till 15 september 2008 more than 4,000 entries has been recorded and 15 of whom suggested Dubai fountain, who eventually shared the prize of AED 100,000 cash prize when a panel of judges selected Dubai fountain the final name of the fountains[11].
