Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2022

The Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2022 happened on 16th December 2022 at Kampala Serena Hotel themed "The Awakening". The ceremony is held annually in Kampala, Uganda to celebrate true African fashion, glamour, music and culture. After 2 years due to the global pandemic, Africa's biggest fashion award[1], and red carpet show returned for the 8th Edition and continued in honouring outstanding fashion creatives who have shaped the continent's fashion industry through the years.[2][3] [4] [5] [6]

Headliners

The major headlining fashion showcases were by Eric Raisina, David Tlale and Mai Atafo. Eric Raisina was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding fashion patronage over the years. After he won the “New Young Designer of the Year" at the Fashion Festival and Textile Competition in Madagascar, this enabled him to study Textile and Fashion at Ecole Des Arts Appliqués Duperré Paris on a scholarship. He later earned my Master’s degree in Textile and Fashion from the Institute Français de la Mode.

Other Honorary Award recipients were Trevor Stuurman who received the Icon Award, Mitchel Omamteker - Award for Positive Change, Business Maverick of The Year to the MOTIV Organisation while Kasule Raphael was honoured with the ASFA Visionary Award. The Trailblazer Award was given to Aamito Lagum for her groundbreaking career in the modeling industry which opened doors for other African models, Fashion Influencer Award to Angella Namubiru, and the Best Fashion Contributor Diaspora award was accorded to Mko World for his Afro-sustaining work in Dubai and around the work through Art Fusion Night, a project that promotes African fashion and culture around the world.


Music performances from artists like Grenade Official, Winnie Nwagi, Jackie Chandiru, Wilson Bugembe, Pia Pounds, Gabriel K. A Fashion Showcase experience by Ugandan and African fashion designers. Showcases from Eric Raisina from Cambodia, David Tlale from South Africa, Mai Atafo from Nigeria, Jenm Clothing by Raja Keji from South Sudan, and Ugandan designer; SKP Clothing by Sheba Kassami and Ipigogo house of Fashion by Monica Kansiime.

The list of nominees was released at the ASFA Nominee Release Party which happened at The Kampala Brunch on 13th November 2022 at the La Terraza rooftop.[7] Public voting of the nominees opened on 19th November 2022 and closed on 14th December 2022. Unlike previous events, the public vote carried now carried 40% and the ASFA panel vote carried 60%.
