"Day of 1971 (Ekattorer Din)" is a 2019 Bangla short film starring Yeasir Shohag and Ahmed Shohana in the lead roles. The short film has been directed by Sabbir Ahmed Shohag. Two siblings hide from the military and wait for the independence war to end. Will they survive through the deadly war and taste freedom?

Plot

The year is 1971. Two siblings have shifted to another part of the country during the ongoing war for safety. They have lost their parents. Shafik and Alo sit at the corner of a river. Alo asks her elder brother about the war and the current situation during 1971. Her brother assures her that they both will enjoy an independent country and get back to their old life. Later, he reads a letter that his father wrote his mother. Alo listens to her brother read the letter out loud. As the days pass, the siblings struggle through tough times. One day, Alo comes to her brother and informs about how the Pakistani military has destroyed their mud stove. But this does not discourage Shafik from preparing and transporting food to the freedom fighters. Their only source of news is a radio. One night when Alo and Shafik are about to go to bed, they hear loud thuds on the door, realizing that the Pakistani military men have arrived. Alo, the young girl, prepares herself with a rifle and shoots one of the two drunk invaders courageously to save themselves. However, the darkest night of their lives is yet to arrive. What happens when Alo sets out one night, leaving his sister alone at home? Will Alo and Shafik be able to stay alive through the war and celebrate the joy of independence?
