TaM Management was created in 1998 as an off-shoot from Little London Studios by studio owners Terri and Mike Harris.
Early Days
editInitially the roster comprised new young bands requiring development. Although this bought a modicum of success (Zucchini supported Status Quo at Hastings Beer and Music Festival, Summer Born Wild were runners up in BBC Electric Proms) [1][2] it was only the beginning...
Moving up
editIn 2005 TaM worked on Leftfield Stage at Glastonbury Festival as stage managers, technicians and artist hospitality, working with Sonic Audio, The Beat featuring Neville Staples, British Sea Power, The Lovegods, Babyshambles, The Others, Lady Sovereign, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle and Alison Mourer. This was the opportunity to make a lot of new contacts. Following this TaM managed the Unison Tent at Guilfest in 2005 and 2006.
In December 2006 TaM received the RADAR People of the Year Award for work with disabled and deprived youngsters
Earlier in 2006 Dave Parsons and Ian Whitewood of Sham 69 had asked for help with finding a new singer to replace Jimmy Pursey.[3][4]. After new singer Tim Scargill (Tim V) had joined the band, and a video of Borstal Breakout filmed in Little London Studios screened on Kerrang, TaM Management had a disagreement with the band about the new singer. As a result of this TaM Management dropped Sham 69 from their roster. Within a few days Jimmy Pursey made contact requesting a meeting at his home in Hersham. At this meeting all issues were resolved and it was apparent that many of the views of Parsons and Whitewood were wrong. From then Tam Management has represented Pursey.
By 2007 TaM was working with Eric Faulkner of The Bay City Rollers and helped him get booked to perform an acoustic set on Leftfield Stage then to introduce Tony Benn to deliver a talk on 'Another World is Possible'[5] This year TaM worked on stage with, among others, 3 Daft Monkeys, Neck, The Blood Arm, The Thirst, Don Letts & Dub Cartel, King Blues, Damien Dempsey, Pama International, The Beat, Seasick Steve, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, The Mentalists, Get Cape incl PlanB, Lethal Bizzle, The Noisettes, Akala, Joss Stone, Rhoda Dakar, George Monbiot (campaigner and Guardian journalist), Eric Faulkner (Bay City Rollers), Tony Benn hosting ‘Another World is Possible’ with Frances O’Grady (TUC), Chris Baugh (PCS), Mark Thomas, Neville Staples (from The Specials), Goldblade, Soweto Kinch, Glenn Tilbrook, DJ Phil Jupitus, Billy Bragg, Night of Treason ...
Tam Management has also worked extensively with other artists from the realm of punk music. Poly Styrene feisty lead singer of X Ray Spex. A demo of 'Code Pink' was recorded in the studio and a video was shot by Richard Heslop. This all helped Poly Styrene to get a recording contract with Future Noise Music for her new solo album 'Generation Indigo' - released March 2011.[6]. Dave Sharp, lead guitarist with The Alarm also joined the roster working on several projects, including his solo acoustic act and classic rock with a selection of band members under the umbrella of 'Roots Band'.
A late night phone call from Los Angeles led to a session to record the Hastings end of a phone interview with the legendary Mitch Mitchell, drummer with Jimi Hendrix Experience. What should have been a ten minute interview ran to nearly two hours - by which time Mitch had his shoes off and was very relaxed. So much so that, after the interview had finished, he sat in on the studio drum kit and Terri and Mike jammed with him for another hour.[7]
2010 on ...
editAs a new decade started TaM Management began working with more artists from retro bands, including Howard Werth and Trevor Williams of Audience performing with Andy Young of Splodgenessabounds as Blue Pulse. This came after a chance meeting with Young on the beach at Dungeness when Richard Branson was attempting to cross the Channel by kite-surfing.
A new off-shoot was added - TaM Entertainment was created to develop Independent Day on America Ground, Hastings on July 4th 2010[8], running the music stage and providing the musicians at the event.
New projects being worked on include 'Electric Blue' [9] which comprises a core band with guest appearances of well known names who have appeared with international bands around the world. Showing an interest so far are Carl Verheyan (of Supertramp), Frank Simes, Henry McCullough (of Wings and Joe Cocker's Grease Band).
