The current system of each confederation's format per round is listed here:

Round of Competition	AFC	CONCACAF	CONMEBOL	Teams still eligible for Cup
1st		2-game aggragates between 22 teams with 13 teams recieving 1st round byes; 11 teams advance	one 10-team, double-round robin group with top 4 automati- cally advancing and 5th place going to inter-confederation playoff; only round
2nd		2-game aggragates between 24 teams; 12 teams advance	no further intra-confederation play
3rd		three 4-team, double-round robin groups with top 2 in each group advancing
4th		one 6-team, double-round robin group with top 3 automati- cally advancing and 4th place going to inter-confederaton playoff; final round
5th		no further intra-confederation play
Inter- confederation Playoffs	2-game aggragate, home-away, between 5th place AFC team and OFC winner	2-game aggragate, home-away, between 4th place CONCACAF team and 5th place CONMEBOL team		33 + Host
