Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V. is a non-profit organisation founded in November 2005 by the three aerospace companies Airbus Group (then: EADS), Liebherr-Aerospace and MTU Aero Engines as well as the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. The Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft (IABG) has also been a member of the institution since 2012 and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) since 2021.
The approximately 50 employees work on the future of mobility in general and the future of air transport in particular. The aim of the research work is to take a holistic view of the aviation system from many angles: technical, economic, social and ecological aspects are taken into account. The focus is on recommendations for action for a transformation to climate-friendly aviation, funded by the German Federal Government's Aviation Research Programme Climate (LuFo Klima) and the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, among others.
