Josh Mizruchi (Born September 3, 1985) is an American trumpet player, composer, bandleader, and educator.

Early life

Spending the first few years of his life in New York City and its surrounding area, Mizruchi moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan at the age of six and began playing the trumpet at the age of eleven. <ref>https://www.allaboutjazz.com/member-josh-mizruchi__10947<ref> Showing promise at an early age, he performed with jazz trumpet great Louis Smith and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra members Seneca Black and Rodney Whitaker in his early teens. In 2001, at the age of 16, Mizruchi recorded his first song, an original composition entitled "Koko's Dance," which appeared on the compilation What If We're Serious?, a collection which featured talented young local artists in Michigan. <ref>https://www.allmusic.com/album/what-if-were-serious-mw0001222574?1646778805386<ref> Mizruchi was also featured on the track "All Most Losing You," from that album. In 2007, at the age of 21, Mizruchi released his debut album, which was recorded at the University of Michigan.

Education

Mizruchi attended and graduated from both the University of Michigan and New England Conservatory of Music <ref>https://alumnius.net/new_england_conserva-8502-year-2010-2012#alumni<ref>. While at New England Conservatory, Mizruchi performed professionally with many groups, including the Beantown Swing Orchestra, Florencia Gonzalez Big Band (<ref>https://latinjazznet.com/reviews/music/featured-albums/florencia-gonzalez-big-band-woman-dreaming-of-escape/<ref>), and a wide variety of wedding bands, church bands, jazz ensembles, and musicals.

Career

Mizruchi moved to New York City in 2012, where he again began playing in a wide range of professional ensembles. In early 2013, he joined Arturo O'Farrill's jazz ensemble at Brooklyn College as lead trumpet for two years <ref>https://soundcloud.com/bruce-katlin/josh-mizruchi-jazz-trumpeter<ref>, subsequently getting opportunities to perform with Arturo O'Farrill's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and Quintet. Mizruchi has also performed with Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride, Geri Allen, Dave Holland, Anat Cohen, Papo Vazquez, Barry Harris and Jimmy Cobb (among others), and has performed at many festivals and conferences, including the Riverview Jazz Festival, Montclair Jazz Festival, CUNY Jazz Festival, the ISIM Conference (Evanston, Illinois), Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, the IAJE Conference, and many others.

In 2018, Mizruchi performed on The Today Show on NBC. <ref>https://soundcloud.com/bruce-katlin/josh-mizruchi-jazz-trumpeter<ref> Later that year, he released a second project, Boston to New York, which included recorded tracks from his graduate recital at New England Conservatory, as well as more recently recorded material in New York City.

In 2020, Mizruchi released Prospect Park East, which produced four singles: "What is This Thing Called Love?", "My Funny Valentine," "Hell in A Handbasket," and "Emily."

In 2014, Mizruchi participated in Craig Shepard’s outdoor recording, Trumpet City, in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. This recording featured 71 trumpet players playing in various corners of the city. Mizruchi performed on Park Avenue next to his mentor and friend, Seneca Black. Mizruchi also participated in the group's second performance in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The official recording was released in 2020.

In 2021, Mizruchi was featured in a virtual presentation at the COP-26 in Glasgow, Scotland, where he performed the song "Stormy Weather" and discussed his feelings on climate change. Personal life and Educational work:

Mizruchi lives in Newark, New Jersey, and has worked as a jazz educator/workshop presenter in New York City and New Jersey Public Schools.
