International Private Investigators Union (IPIU), headquartered in the United States, is a worldwide organization which advocates for private investigators. Founded in 1989[1], the group has informed its members about international private investigator bills and licensing, training requirements, career opportunities, and managing a private investigative business.
Founded to advance professional standards and accreditation of private investigators, the IPIU continues to teach competency and specialization of over fifty (50) areas of private investigations[2]. It instructs civilian trainees, licensed private investigators for advanced studies, former law enforcement officers, and adults in various programs. Membership surpassed 45,000 in January 2015[3].
History

editThe International Private Investigators Union was first informally organized as an unincorporated non-labor union association in the state of California in 1989. [4]. On March 17, 1994 the group voted to officially incorporate and to elect its first corporate officers. On December 5, 2007, IPIU headquarters moved to Denver, Colorado[5].
