Hello, my name is Ali LaRocca and I am planning on writing an article for a class I am taking this semester at Bucknell University.

Bibliography for "Pre-Industrial Society" Article

Cipolla, Carlo M. Before the Industrial Revolution: European Society and Economy, 1000-1700. New York: Norton, 1976. This source will help me with background information on how life was in Europe before industrialization. I will use this source mostly for an overview of how society functioned before the industrial revolution. This will help me better understand a civilization based on agriculture rather than technology.

"Meir Kohn - Dartmouth - Economics." Meir Kohn - Dartmouth - Economics. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Oct. 2014. This source will help me understand the economics segment that played into the pre-industrial type of civilization. It's very credible and will be super helpful when understanding the primary economic components of society during this time.

Persson, Karl Gunnar. Pre-industrial Economic Growth: Social Organization, and Technological Progress in Europe. Oxford: Blackwell, 1988. This source explores Europe's pre-industrial society and how the economy flourished during these years without the help of industrialization. The source is credible and will be helpful for writing the overview of the article.

"Preindustrial Societies: The Birth of Inequality - Boundless Open Textbook." Boundless. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Oct. 2014. This source explores multiple preindustrial societies around the world. This way I won't only be looking at Europe, but also Latin America and Asia to get a better understanding of what a preindustrial society entails.

Wang, Shaoguang, and Angang Hu. The Political Economy of Uneven Development: The Case of China. Armonk, NY: M.E. Sharpe, 1999. This source studies China essentially as a good example of how a preindustrial civilization came to be and functioned without the help of industrialization. It discusses primarily the politics and economics of the preindustrial society in China and further explains how it was before becoming developed.

Wu, Yushan. Comparative Economic Transformations: Mainland China, Hungary, the Soviet Union, and Taiwan. Stanford, CA: Stanford UP, 1994. This source also looks at solely China as a successful preindustrial society and how they transformed its economy. It also looks at Hungary, the Soviet Union and Taiwan. I will mostly be looking within the chapter on China and maybe the Soviet Union depending on the region I choose to focus on in the article. If I mostly do an overview of a preindustrial society, I will look at all the regions and include them in my summary.

Outline of Additions and Edits

      • My goal is to transform this article from a stub to a start article

I. First I would like to expand the overview of what it means to be a “Pre-industrial Society.” This would be a few sentences after the definition that is already on the page since it only really covers the years of 1750-1850, which isn’t the only time period that came before industrialization a. Expand the definition (undeveloped) b. From BC to the year 1850 c. What was it like? (Daily life) d. How is it different from Industrialization? e. Organization of Work

II. Expand the list of “Some attributes of Pre-industrial society” a. Get rid of “some” b. List more reasons as to what makes a society defined as pre-industrial i. Birthrate was high ii. Production was agricultural iii. Subsistence Level c. List more theories and terms i. Feudalism ii. Redistribution of Wealth iii.Religion plays key role

III. Regions (this is important because each region is different when it comes to what made it preindustrial) a. This will be a new section and I will make it very general for now b. Asia, Soviet Union, Europe, Latin America (economic systems used, politics, social) c. Maybe 1-2 sentences on each OR will focus on one specifically (probably China if only one region) -What kind of agriculture? -Economic system -Religion

IV. Bibliography a. List ALL the sources I use (which will hopefully be a lot)
