Name
editThe name "Neom" was constructed from two words. The first three letters form the Ancient Greek prefix νέο Neo-meaning “new”. The fourth letter is from the abbreviation of Arabic: مستقبل, romanized: Mustaqbal, (Hejazi Arabic pronunciation: [mʊsˈtagbal]), the Arabic word for “future.”[1]
The project is sometimes also referred to as NWSA which stands for "North West Saudi Arabia" indicating its location on the globe.
Location
editThe Neom project[2] is located int the province of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia in the northwest of the Kingdom,[3] extended along with Aqaba gulf, a part of the Red Sea, and 468 km of coastline with beaches and coral reefs, as well as mountains up to 2,500 m high, with a total area of around 26,500 sq. km.[4]
The Line
editIn January 10 2021, the project unveiled plans for The Line, a 170-kilometre (110 mi) long linear city within the Neom area that is supposed to have 1 million citizens without conventional cars.[5] Located in Neom, making more than 40% of the wold's population less than a 4 hour flight away. [6]
The city will be free of streets and cars and is planned to have every resident's daily needs within a five minute walk of their residence, and the longest possible trip would take up to 20 minutes with the use of ultra-high-speed trains. The line will be 100% powered by Clean energy [7]. The planning comity intends on building this linear city will be built around nature. This 170 km linear city will help create 380,000 jobs. Construction of The Line will start in the first quarter of 2021 and is expected to finish by 2030. [7]

editAgriculture
editNeom plans for 6,500 hectares (16,000 acres) of the surrounding land to become agricultural fields, and to rely heavily on genetically engineered crops.[8] The city will use climate-proof agriculture to help preserve natural resources. It also plans to transform the Red Sea's coat by bio-designing its Aquaculture.
