Early Life and Education

Wang Zhian was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, on March 10, 1973. He completed his primary and secondary education in Shenyang. In 1995, he graduated from the Beijing University of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Further pursuing his interest in robotics, he completed his master's degree and Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2000 and 2003, respectively.

Career

After completing his doctorate, Wang returned to China, joining the Harbin Institute of Technology as a lecturer. In 2005, he became the Director of the Robotics Research Centre at the same institute. Under his leadership, the center developed many innovative robotic technologies, notably in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, that have been applied across a variety of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and aerospace.

In 2012, Wang co-founded the company RoboTech, which specializes in manufacturing industrial and service robots. The company quickly gained international recognition for its innovative products and advanced AI integration.


Recognition

Wang has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field of robotics. He was awarded the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Early Career Award in 2008 and the National Science and Technology Progress Award of China in 2011.

In 2018, he was elected as a foreign associate of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and in 2020, he was named a fellow of the Royal Society.

Personal life

Wang Zhian is married to Liu Ming, a pediatrician, and they have two children. Wang is known to have a passion for classical music and enjoys playing the violin in his spare time.
