The Day of the Youth Movement is an event of the youth movement organisations in Flanders, Belgium.

editIn Flanders, 250.000 kids are in one of the Youth Movements. Most have weekly activities organised by local groups of their organisations (Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen, Chiro, FOS Open Scouting, klj, KSJ-KSA-VKSJ, JNM,...) This means an estimated 18% of the 5-24 age-group in Flanders.
What?
editAll youth movement organisations stimulate their members to wear their uniforms to work, school, on the train, or wherever you happen to go. That's the basic concept. Why it's fun?
editIt's a huge happening with similar-minded people. And seeing all those uniformed kids in your class, really visualises the scale of youth-work in our countries. The first year, some kids hesitated, but now it's known that everyone participates. It's fun and the local groups are extending the event with an additional Night of the YouthMovement, with party, campfire, quiz,...
History
editDay of the Youth Movement (or "Dag van de Jeugdbeweging" in Flemish) originated in Flanders (Belgium). The 10th edition (2009) will also take place in Wallonia. During the years, the advertising for the event allways paid attention to the different uniforms from the organisations.
