Urban Chowk - The Urban Food Joint is a notable food park in Thaltej, Ahmedabad, India. 'Chowk' is an Urdu word which literally translates to an open market area in a city at the junction of two roads. Chowks are generally to be found in the old city and in fact there are many of them in Old Ahmedabad.

As the name suggests, it is an urbanized version of a chowk. It is a baby project comprising of 24 stalls which was established on 3rd September 2017[1] by the aspiring individuals namely Kunal Hurra, Nikita Rajput and Kartikey Rajput. Despite belonging to the different working fields, their common interests and passion for good food stimulated them to come up with this new venture called 'Urban Chowk'.[2]

They have a variety of cuisines and a plenty of different dishes at each stall to offer. Most of the stalls emerge at 6:00 in the evening and continue till midnight and sometimes post midnight for the occasions like Navratri which is a widely celebrated festival in Gujarat. And they remain open for all the days.[3]

Vision

The founders have also come up with a vision for their project which says 'Your Chowk, Urban Chowk' Their soul purpose is to serve people the best and provide with warm and pleasant ambiance which would give them a break from the everyday monotony. [2]

Policy

First, they have a strict policy which states that the stalls cannot repeat a particular cuisine and if they wish to they should come up with some variation. Second, they do not take any table reservations but are open to take bookings for events like Open mic, Live music(vocal and instrumental), Cooking, Food Art and Craft workshops for both adults and kids. And, they also provide valet parking. They’ve a no smoking policy and pets aren’t allowed either.

Structure

They have their stalls placed in an inverted G Channel Frame and in between the space, is the seating area. They have chairs and drums for the seating. The tables are made of Kota stone. They’ve separate washrooms for men and women. They also have a staff room. There’s a photo booth towards the left hand side of the exit.

There are 24 stalls in Urban chowk which all are rented. The rent of a stall per month is 32,000 INR.

Barley Water

It is a franchise based stall. Barley water is a traditional drink their company is one of the best sodas and also they're the pioneer of Barley water in Gujarat.They are amazing coolers to beat the heat. They offer a variety of flavored sodas which has amazing health benefits. They wish to serve people in the best possible way by providing best possible health products.[4]

9834 - The Fruit Truck

It is again a franchise based stall. They serve from fruit dishes to juices, shakes and smoothies to desserts. They use fresh fruits for all their preparations. The founder's intent is to make available the food preparations to people at an affordable price.[5] Jamun Shots in beverages and 9834 special in desserts are the best sellers of this stall.[6]

Maratha Express

It serves Maharashtrian Cuisine. The Maratha Express stall opens at 12 in the noon and is open till 12 midnight. The average that a customer has to spend is Rs 200. Non- Vegetarian food is also available at the stall. It also provides the service of home delivery too. They serve authentic Marathi food like Bombay Vada Pav, Misal Pav and so on. They serve piping hot Misal with Pav and onions. They also provide a pouch of flex-seeds after the food.

Egg Box

It is a fast food stall which serves egg dishes and veg food .Here vegetarian food is not served at weekends. This stall opens at 7 in the evening till 12 in the midnight. It serves different types of egg dishes .For example, kheema, egg-curry. The average cost for two people is around Rs 300 .They don’t deliver food at home.[7]

Meraki

Meraki is a fast food stall which serves quick bites. This stall offers the facility to deliver the food at home .Here the average cost for two people is approximately Rs 400. The best item is Indian sizzler meal. It serves a pretty good quantity for two people. This stall opens at sharp 6:30 in the evening till 12 in the midnight.

Chiwoo Chinese

This stall serves Chinese cuisines .This stall opens at 11 in the morning till 11 at the night. The average cost for two people is Rs 200 .They serve facility to deliver food at home .This stall only serves vegetarian food. They have a very quick service to serve food. They have a good variations in Chinese food dishes.

La Vita

It has two outlets in Ahmedabad. It serves Italian Cuisine. The average a person has to spend hers is Rs 300. They got an amazing preparation and presentation skills. Normally it serves food like pizza, sandwich, hara-bhara kebabs and french-fries. This stall opens at 6 in the evening and it open till 12 midnight. It serves only vegetarian food.[8]

Dil thi Desi

This stall opens at 11 in the morning and is open till12 midnight. It serves fast food cuisine. The average one needs to spend is Rs 250. They mainly serve food item like Bhaji Pav.

M.A.D (MEXICAN AND DESSERTS) and Havmor

Mexican and desert is the only stall in the urban chowk which sells Mexican cuisine. The main motive of the stall is to serve tasty and delicious food to its customer. The purpose of the stall is to invent and serve new food item to its customers. This stall have their own new style to serve the dishes. There are 8 member employed at the stall .They have done many changes according to the preference of the customers. According to the stall owner the most famous dish of the stall is “nachos” and “burrito bowl”. There is no as such competition for the Mexican cuisine in urban chowk .Their profit margin increases on the weekends and in vacation times.[10] Havmor is a franchise and is a well known brand in Gujarat. They serve ice creams and desserts.[11]

A-1 Maggi Bhajiya

A-1 Maggi bhajiya is the only stall in the urban chowk which sells maggi base items. There are 3 people working in the stall . The work is distributed among them. The owner of the stall likes to cook and do new innovation or changes in the food. The most well-known dish of the stall is maggi bhajiya. They pay rent of the stall. The main purpose of the stall is to serve best. Most of the people are not aware of different item that can be made by maggi. This stall changes everyone’s perception about Maggi. The profit margin of the stall increases on weekends and in the vacation time.[12]

Comic Corn

Comic corn is owned by three childhood friends. The purpose for which they opened the stall was their interest and passion towards cooking. They are from varied backgrounds where one is a Chartered Accoutant, one is Architect and the third was a Graphic Designer. They sell a unique barbecue cheese burst pizza. They particularly don’t sell any cuisine, instead they do innovation in corn and sell it. They divide the work between them so that there is no chaos. Soon the prices will be upgraded. They sell the product at base price.[13]

Plate It

Plate It is the stall which sells Italian as a cuisine. This stall has really varied and comical names of the plates they serve. They bake the dough on the spot on their own and then they prepare their pizza. The purpose of opening the stall was of doing pure and proper business. They display their special food items on a screen. The speciality of the stall is the jungle book pizza. They have done many changes according to the taste and preference of the customer.[14]

The Fusion Dosa Express

The fusion Dosa express is one of the stalls in Urban chowk. It has four members - one of them is a chef, another one is a helper and the rest of the two members are the owners of the stall, they are cousin brothers. Their forte or the most preferred dish of the customers is the Mexican mania and the cheese ghotala dosa. Their cuisine is south Indian. Their purpose of running the stall is inventing new things and serving new food items to its customers. There is complete division of work between the four members.

Rangilu Rajasthan

Rangilu Rajasthan is the only stall in Urban chowk that sells Dal baati. There are three members working in this stall. Their most liked plate is Dal baati and Khichiya papad. Their cuisine, as the elect suggests, Indian (Rajasthani). They don’t face any competition as it is the only Rajasthani selling stall in the entire Urban chowk. The purpose behind opening the stall is to serve Rajasthani Cuisine and make people aware about the same. The work is completely divided among the three members.

Submarine

This stall is owned by three partners. All three of them are early life friends. They came up with this name, Submarine, from Google. The most popular plate of their stall is Turban tadka. Their cuisine is American. Their USP is Bagles, this dish is not found so easily in Gujrat. There is no division of work among the members, so-and-so is vacant attends the customer.[15]

Dhamaal Kathiawadi

This stall is owned by a woman. There are six members working in this stall. They are all siblings. Their forte is Vagharela rotla. Their cuisine is Gujarati, Kathiyawadi. The purpose of their stall is to change people’s perception about Kathiyawadi food that it is boring and not so tasty. Their USP is a Kathiyawadi dessert, it’s their very own forgery.

The Chaat Place

This is also owned by a woman. There are five members working in this stall. They came with this name because chaat is a mouth watering word for Indians. Their strong point is Dahi puri and Sev puri.[16] Most of their food items are made of dahi. Their cuisine is North Indian. Basically they sell fast food items. There is division of work.

The Chocolate Story

The chocolate story is one of the stall in urban chowk. This stalls is owned by a man. Their cuisine is ice cream and beverages. In this stall RS. 400 for two people (approx.). If any, exclusive of applicable charges and taxes is cash only. The chocolate story is a place for sweety and tasty sweet delights. Stick waffle is famous in this stall.

The Burger Factory

This stall is owned by a woman. The burger factory is the only the stall in urban chowk that sells burger. Their cuisine is burger and fast food. In this stall RS. 200 for two people. Potato twisty is famous in this stall.

Tibb’s Frankie

Tibb’s Frankie is a respected brand among fast food category. Tibb’s Frankie was registered as a trademark by tibb’s BAR-B-Q which now has it presence all over India.[17]

Street Zaika

In street zaika, their cuisines are South Indian and fast food. In this stall cheese burst dosa and Italian dosa are very famous. The average cost of two person is approx RS. 300. There are 5 workers and 1 cashier in this stall. They are a traditional bell to call the customers for their orders

Urban Story - The Coffee house

The coffee house the owner of this stall is a woman. And there are 2 helpers. They serve both machine made as well as manually made coffee. We can get various food item s from different food stalls.

Punjabi Virsa

In this stall the owner handle cash and the owner’s wife guides the workers in the cooking. Stall’s theme is yellow colour. In this stall no alcohol available and vegetarian only. The average cost of two person is approx. Rs. 300. Their cuisines is north Indian. If any, exclusive of applicable taxes and charges is cash only.
