Ed has amazing physical strength which, humorously, often comes in handy for the Eds' scams, though Ed often, when their scams are in construction, accidentally destroys them. Ed is utterly at the mercy of his tyrannical younger sister, Sarah, for whom he cares deeply. He has also made a number of appearances in other media and in Ed, Edd n Eddy merchandising lines.

Role in Ed, Edd n Eddy

edit

Ed is one of the three Eds, the other two being Ed and Edd (better known as Double D) with whom he is best friends. They live in the fictional city of Peach Creek on Rethink Avenue, referred to as simply the cul-de-sac and attend Peach Creek Junior High. He wears a red-and-white striped shirt, a green jacket with two white stripes on each sleeve and purple-blue jeans. Unlike with other characters, Ed's skin is yellow. He has very short red hair and has a very poor personal hygiene. He is a fan of monster films and comic books, which he often confuses with reality. He also likes buttered toast, gravy, cereal (namely "Chunky Puffs"), pudding skin, chickens, and animals in general. He is known to laugh a lot and is happy most of the time.

Ed is the strong, dim-witted workhorse of the Eds, who is has a positive attitude towards almost everything and everyone. The Eds try to scam their peers in order to purchase their favorite confectionery; jawbreakers. Ed has amazing physical strength; Though his strength often comes in handy for the Eds' scams, Ed often, when their scams are in construction, accidentally destroys them. Ed is utterly at the mercy of his tyrannical younger sister, Sarah, for whom he cares deeply, and is an easy target of her manipulations.

Creation

edit

Cartoonist Danny Antonucci spent months designing the show in a way similar to the classic cartoons from the 1940s to the 1970s.[1] While the cul-de-sac children were based on real people in his life,[1] the personalities of Ed and the two Eds, were based on personal traits of himself, and the activities of his two sons.[1] He described Edd as "Mr. Organized, neurotic, tries to keep things in its order or else he goes crazy,"[2] Edd is voiced by Samuel Vincent.[1]

Personality

edit

Ed is kind and has a positive attitude towards almost everything and everyone, and is kind even to those who are not kind to him. He cares deeply for the other two Eds. He often sacrifices himself for his two best friends, the other cul-de-sac children, and even his younger sister Sarah, for whom he cares deeply, though she treats him very badly. He is known to laugh a lot and is happy most of the time. He is very absent-minded and naive, making him the perfect candidate to help Eddy with his scams, as Ed hardly ever questions them. Even so, Ed never feels abused by Eddy.

He is a fan of monster films and comic books, which he often confuses with reality. He also likes buttered toast, gravy, cereal (namely "Chunky Puffs"), pudding skin, chickens, and animals in general. He has a very poor personal hygiene, to the point of being afraid of soap and liking the smell of sweaty boots. Though the Eds were outcasts throughout the series, in the series' TV movie finale Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show, the three becomes friends with all the cul-de-sac children; Even Sarah starts treating Ed nicely.[3]
