The Model United Nations is a simulate mock setup in which students from diverse schools come together and discover, discuss, debate and talk about negotiation, International Relations and also achieve a better and wider considerate of how the actual United Nations functions. It was originally started by Arihant Chopra and then the other co founders,Piyush Ghiya, Jeneel Shah, Siddharth Katariya joined in. The first conference was held in 30th 31st may, 2015 in a Luxury hotel at REGENTA, Ahmadabad. They have been recognized by Home ministry of Gujarat and Narcotics control bureau and they provided us an opportunity to bring awareness about all this happening in our state. They  have been recognized by Sports and cultural minister of Gujarat- Mr. Rajendra Trivedi . Now he became the speaker in Gujarat Vidhan sabha. They have organised first Indian heritage conference in Lukshmi Vilas palace- Vadodada. First time Mun happened in cities of Rajkot and Gandhidham was been organised by the founders and have received marvelous response.

PROCEDURE

ROLL CALL:

The procedure starts with the chairperson saying a country’s name and the delegates need to say “present” on their presence.

SETTING THE AGENDA:

The first point will be consideration of agenda. Then the motion on main agenda is placed first. The motion is given a second and it is debatable. A list of two people speaking for and against motion is made. After provisional list is exhausted, the committee shall move into an immediate vote. Then majority is considered for motion to pass. A motion to proceed to the second topic area is started only after the committee has voted on a resolution regarding the first topic area.

DEBATE[1]

SPEAKERS LIST (FORMAL DEBATE)

The chairperson will ask the delegates who would like to speak and ask them to raise their placards. Then they will choose the delegates to be placed on speakers list. After one country has spoken, they may be added on speakers list again, if they send the note to chairman saying; “the delegation would like to be added to speakers list”

END OF LIST:

Once the speakers list has been exhausted, the committee would move to immediate voting.

Formal Informal:

When a motion for the following is passed, the delegates raise their placards and chairperson calls delegates to address the committee.

Informal Informal:

An informal informal is a temporary recess during which rules of procedure are suspended for the purpose of negotiation. Delegates meet informally with each other and the committee staff so that they can discuss the issue and merge resolutions. This takes up a majority of committee time.

Draft Resolutions:

Delegates gets divided into regional or political blocs to agree on resolution language within their group. Each group merges with another, until one resolution is on the floor.

CLOSURE OF DEBATE

Once a delegate feels that they have made their country’s position clear and that there are enough draft resolutions on the floor, he or she may make a motion to proceed into voting procedure by moving for the closure of debate.

VOTING PROCEDURES

Once a motion to close debate has been approved, the committee moves into voting procedures. Amendments are voted upon first, then resolutions. Once all of the resolutions are voted upon, the committee can move to the next topic

COMMITTEES

There are in total six committees under Gujarat Model United Nations. These committees are responsible for discussing matters of world concerns. At the end of all committee sessions each committee has passes a final resolution that deals with the problem introduced in the beginning of the event. The committees included in the Gujarat Model United Nations are:

UNSC

The UNSC or the United Nations Security Council an important element to the six main organs of the United Nations.[2]The committee discusses matter about national security and aims to achieve global peace charges with ensuring over all security. The UNSC also takes in matters such as the addition of newer members to the UN, keeping up with any changes to the charter etc. the committee as a while under Gujarat Model United Nations has been one of the most wanted Under the wish lists of the delegates.

The committee holds fifteen members each belonging to a nation. Such committee members are not only responsible for decisions made but in addition to that are also responsible for the compliance to the decisions made.


LOK SABHA

Lok Sabhais one of the largest committees under the Gujarat Model United Nation.[3]It consists of over 550 members directly elected on the basis of adult suffrage.

 

Out of these 550,530 members represent the states and about 20 represent the union territories. It is an organ of the parliament that works as the legislature of the government.

SPECPOL (The Special Political and Decolonisation Committee )

The SPECPOL deals with a variety of issues all including world peace, human rights, atomic radiation as well as decolonisation.[4]Although SPECPOL’s resolutions aren’t binding, the committee still plays an influential role in the international sphere, as the opinions and views of the committees are always representative of a majority of countries.

CCC (continuous crisis committee )

The ccc or the continuous crisis committee looks at the crisis that occur through the nations listed under the United Nations.[5]The crisis in relation to water and food in each country is handled by this committee. At Model United Nations such a committee is responsible to create crisis on purpose in order to see how committees react under pressure and what's the best resolution at the end.

ORGANISING COMMITTEE

The organising committee helps organising the complete event. From top to bottom all activities and tasks are overlooked by the organising committee. The organising committee is responsible for all work performed and is there fore the core of the event. Due to the restrictions on communication in each committee the committee members are to communicate through the medium of "chits" which are then passes on through the OC members.

INTERNATIONAL PRESS

The international press is one of the important committees in the UN.[6]The international press consists of over 15 reporters that report and inform the happenings of each committee. These reporters in turn keep the public in light of the events happening.

CONFERENCES HELD BY MODEL UNITED NATIONS

In recent times the GMUN has done 7 conferences in Gujarat. The cities were Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gandhidham, and Vadodara. [7]

Started their Journey:-

The GMUN started their journey from the Ahmedabad. The very first conference was held on 30th and 31st May 2015 in RE:GENTA Hotel there were about more than 200 delegates were present in their conferences. This was a successful for event for them. [8]The second conference also held in Ahmedabad at Narayani Heights and Resorts on 24th and 25th June 2016. At that time there were about more 600 delegates present to attend their conferences. After doing 2 successful conferences in Ahmedabad they decided to take this further to different cities of Gujarat. So, they organized there third conference in Rajkot at the Fern Residency on 23rd and 24th October 2016. At the Rajkot conferences their more than 300 delegates were present in that conference[9]. After doing a successful conference in the year 2016, they did their next conference again in Ahmedabad at Club O7 on 24th and 25th June 2017. And after this they organized a conference in Gandhidham at Amber Sarovar Portico on 29th and 30th July 2017. After Gandhidham the team of GMUN again went to Rajkot for another conference with the youth. Which was held 16 and 17th October at the same venue[10].

First Heritage Conference :-

After doing 6 conferences in different cities of Gujarat the GMUN did their first ever Heritage conference at Laxmi Vilas Palace Vadodara on 29th and 30th October 2017. This was there last conference of the year 2017. [11]

Future Plans :-

Now in 2018 they are coming back again in Ahmedabad for their conference on 9th and 10th June at Eulogia. And they are planning to have a conference in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.  [12]

In organising committee a member is interested to learn the logistical aspect of an MUN,they do it through co-planning with the secretariat individuals, on the times of the occasion Role to play before meeting is spread mindfulness about MUN among understudies and to influence them to enroll as a delegate.

Student Ambassador is a representative of Gujarat MUN in his/her respective institute or school. A student ambassador is the point of contact between Gujarat MUN and the participants of the respective school.
