The AudiovisualMedia Services Directive (AMSD, previously the Television without Frontiers Directive or TVWF) is a directive of the European Union regulating audiovisual media, including television and internet services. [1]

The TVWF was passed by the European Council in 1989 (89/552/EEC). Historically, European television had been dominated by state broadcasters within each member state; but commercial broadcasting was b, and in particular cable and satellite
