Blak Rapp M.A.D.U.S.A. (aka Melanie Carter) is a Pittsburgh-based rapper, poet, activist, and historian who discovered her lyrical talent while living in Houston Texas and produced her first well known single “It’s On” with Trickle Down Entertainment in 2007. [1] Since then M.A.D.U.S.A. has recorded Steel Waters Run Deep in 2015.

M.A.D.U.S.A. identifies as an artivist, and the name M.A.D.U.S.A. is an acronym for Making a Difference Using Skills and Activism. In 2016, she talked about the concept of an artivist with the City Paper, she said “The difference between the [artist and the] artivist is that we’re actually going to do something about it, we’re going to create an event, we’re going to create a rally, we’re going to create a space where people can come and learn more”. [2]

M.A.D.U.S.A. is affiliated with 1Hood Media, along with Jasiri-X, and others, a Pittsburgh-based organization focused on social justice and supporting young rappers in making an impact on their community. M.A.D.U.S.A. has performed a the annual 1Hood Day in Pittsburgh [1]
