Big Muddy Brewing Company

Big Muddy Brewing Company is a beer brewery located in Murphysboro, Illinois (Southern Illinois.) Big Muddy is the first professional beer brewery in Murphysboro in over 50 years. The last successful brewery was Stecher Brewing Company, which despite a 40,000 barrel production year in 1910, fell victim to the effects of the Volstead Act and Prohibition in 1921. Big Muddy Brewery distributes all across the state of Illinois including locations in and outside of Chicago as well as being very popular in bottle and on tap in Southern Illinois. The company also caters to select places around East Saint Louis.

History

Chuck Sturhenberg - Brewmaster

Big Muddy beer production was started in 2009 by Southern Illinois University Carbondale Graduate, Chuck Stuhrenberg. A home-brewer while attending school Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in the 1980's, Stuhrenberg always had professional beer brewing in the back of his mind but pursued other ventures upon degree completion including a Chicago Rosatis Pizza restaurant franchise as well as Spray Shields Industries.
