The Moth that Ate the Grasshopper (nickname: The Moth) is a song by the duo Rob E. D.and Jared "Sunshine" Walker, expected to be released as a single during the summer or earlier. The song combines many different styles of music, mostly to make fun of the styles. It consists of acoustic, rock, heavy metal, grunge, blues, piano, jazz, funk, reggae, soundtrack, and other styles of music. The song was produced in Guitar Pro 5 and 6.

Background

edit

The song was first created when the Duo wanted to remake songs, to make fun of the many different and funny styles of music. The name came from watching the live performance of "The End", by the Doors. The project evolved into many different styles, with just starting from heavy metal and acoustic. The project has taken months, but is rumored to be close to completion.

Influences

edit

The song has a huge variety of different styles, and has many different interpretations. There have been ideas about the piano only portion being a joke about Stockhausen's Klavierstücke, but the group has many times denied the idea. "It's just not possible," Sunshine said, "We have no meaning the behind the song. Stop making up fake ideas!" Also, near the end of the song, some have speculated that it was a tribute to Beck's Harry Parcth, but the duo again denied the accusation.

Scandals

edit

On February 11th, 2011, a crazed friend of the duo accidentally gave out some information regarding the song. One piece of information was some of the actual song on Guitar Pro, with footnotes that were not supposed to be released. It had sections from 00:33 to 1:42. The duo sued the friend, calling him a back stabber. They sued him 50 cents for causing "unrepairable damage to the song and our morale". "We don't know how he could do such a thing," said the saddened Rob E. D. The duo soon called their friendship with the traitor off, and said they did not want to see him again.

Release

edit

The song is scheduled to be released by the beginning of summer. Sunshine said to ABC 7 news that they would again be collaborating with FunkyTone Music, with whom they have been working for several months. They both are very excited to be working on this wonderful project: "We are both very glad to release this beautiful work of art," said Rob E. D.
