The Shree Jagannath Temple of IDA Bollaram is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath, a form of Vishnu, in Hyderabad in the state of Telengana, India. The temple is an important pilgrimage destination in Hyderabad. Devotees across Hyderabad and India started building this temple in the year 2011, on the site of an earlier small temple, it was completed and inaugurated on Nov 2018.

The Bollaram Jagannath temple is famous for its annual Ratha yatra or chariot festival, in which the three principal deities(Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra) are pulled on huge and elaborately decorated temple cars. The temple is sacred to all Hindus and especially in those of the Vaishnava traditions.

Prabhu Shree Jagannath is principal deity for Odias. Odia devotees across Hyderabad came together to build a temple in IDA Bollaram in the year 2011. With the help of many fellow devotees they built this 85 foot tall temple and did Prana Pratistha(inauguration) in the year 2018. This orange colored temple can be clearly seen from the Outer ring road.

Deities

Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are a trio of deities worshiped at the temple. The inner sanctum of the temple contains statues of these three Gods carved from sacred Neem logs known as daru sitting on the bejeweled platform or Ratnabedi, along with statues of Sudarshana Chakra, Madanmohan, Sridevi and Vishwadhatri. The deities are adorned with different clothing and jewels according to the season.

Entrances

The main entrance is called Singhadwara or Lion gate is in the east of the temple. Apart from the Singhadwara, which is the main entrance to the temple, there are three other entrances facing north, south and west. They are named after the sculptures of animals guarding them. The other entrances are the Hathidwara or the Elephant Gate, the Vyaghradwara or the Tiger Gate and the Ashwadwara or the Horse Gate.

Temple Open timings

Daily temple opens at 5AM in the morning and Closes at 1PM in the afternoon. Again it opens in the afternoon 4PM and closes at 9PM in the night.

MahaPrasad or Abhada

The Madhyanha Dhupa or midday meal offered to the lords is called as Abhada or Mahaprasad. Usually Rice, Dal, mixed veg, Spinach, Khata and Khiri is prepared daily for Abhada. Devotees visiting to the temple can have it after the same is offered to the deities.

Daily food offerings

Daily offerings are made to the Lord 4 times a day. These include:

  1. The offering to the Lord in the morning that forms his breakfast and is called Gopala Vallabha Bhoga. Breakfast consists of Coconut grating, Coconut water, and popcorn sweetened with sugar known as Khai, Curd and Ripe bananas.
  2. The Madhyanha dhupa or Lunch forms the next offering at the noon.
  3. The next offering to the Lord is made in the evening at around 8 PM it is Sandhya Dhupa.
  4. The last offering to the Lord is called the Bada Simhara Bhoga.
