American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story is an upcoming American Christian sports drama based on the life, interviews, and memoir of NFL quarterback Kurt Warner to be directed by the Erwin Brothers and produced by Kingdom Story Company. It is to star Zachary Levi as Warner, and is scheduled for a December 10, 2021 release in North America by Lionsgate.

The plot will follow the life of Kurt Warner, who rose from stocking supermarket shelves to becoming an NFL and Football Hall of Fame champion.[2]

Production edit

The film was announced in February of 2020, with the Erwin Brothers set to direct and Kevin Downes, Kurt Warner, and his wife Brenda Warner producing. The film's screenplay will be written by Friday Night Lights writer David Aaron Cohen.[2][3][4][5] In July 2020, it was announced that Zachary Levi would have the main role as Warner.[1]

Release edit

The film is scheduled to be released by Lionsgate on December 10, 2021, after being delayed from its initial release date of December 18, 2020, due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.[6]
