Yehya Antoun Saade[1] known as a controversial young director; who created a revolutionary movement in the visual arts, film and music industry driven by his philosophy in life and his Surrealist spirit.

Early life edit

Born on May 18th 1975 [2] in the village of Zouk Mikael,Lebanon - Middle East. Father Antoun Saleh Saade, mother Saad El Rajaa Magid El Hachem Saade; sisters Iman and Nidal. Though Yehya is well known as a music video director, his work is a visual combination of philosophy, vision and messages. During his first year, and due to the Lebanese war; Yehya moved with his family to Cyprus. His parent's political background contributed in his revolutionary attitude and general philosophy in life.[3]

Since his childhood, Yehya proved his creativity in the artistic world, combined with a love for life and exploring the world. In his early years Yehya showed a love for drawing and painting. In Cyprus Yehya studied in Saint Mary's Catholic school, and then moved to Green Hills a Lebanese management school. Yehya's family moved back to Lebanon in 1985, to live in Ras Beirut; since due to political reasons they could not go back to their hometown.

Exploration & Studies edit

During his childhood Yehya's talents were directed to drawing and painting, in 1992 he moved back to his hometown in Zouk Mikael, and studied interior design. During this period he met his dancing teacher Sami Khoury while playing the role of the poet Abou Chabke[4] in a play presented by the local village club "Animation Sporting Club". His passion for dancing and body language grew and he joined the dance group Hayakel, where he spent 9 years with Sami khoury exploring the world of theater and body expression. After getting his degree in Interior Design, Yehya enrolled in the Lebanese University in Furn El Shebak[5] to continue his studies. At university Yehya stood out as a creative and talented student, yet he refused to be bounded by class walls and limitations of rules. A world out there was waiting for him to explore. So, during the last year of university he decided that it was time to move on. His dancing career helped him discover and appreciate the human body; believing in our right to love, respect, express, and share the beauty of our soul’s sanctuary, during his university years, he agreed to pose as a model for students studying plastic art.

Career edit

Once again a renaissance of vision, colors, harmony, and unity of image developed into a concept, Yehya the art director, taking his first professional steps. It was once said that before Yehya Saade the local market had not yet heard of Art Direction, some even said he was the first to establish art direction in the Middle East.[6]

His art direction, started as bold participation in fashion shows, photo shoots and theatrical shows; until he moved to the film industry. Yehya always says “I want to be the best in what I do. I want to be number 1”. Yehya's input in the industry proved to be a turning point for this art. He worked with pan arab directors, artists, fashion designers and international clientele.

By Yehya Saade edit

Yehya’s signature is obvious in all his accomplishment; viewers know it is a Yehya Saade vision, his images carry his spirit, philosophy and fantasia in one visual combination that says art directed by Yehya Saade. Again Yehya decided it was time to move on when he directed his first music video for Rahma,[7] an Egyptian singer.

Following this experience, Yehya waited a couple of years, during which he continued to work as an art director. He says "I love art direction and will always do it”. Aware that he could not spread his philosophy in life and make his voice heard, through art directing for other directors. Yehya continues his journey. “I speak the language of the new generation, and I know they will understand” he says. The opportunity presented itself in a song for Amal Hijazi, titled Baya al Ward:[7] a song that Yehya says “ The song touched my soul, and said a lot for me”.

The music video though a hit, was very controversial and bold for the society. He was harshly attacked and criticized. This gave Yehya more persistence to move on, create his own style, and insist on spreading his believes. Yehya believes in no boundaries, and that human feeling should be expressed and taboos should be discussed.[8]

With every project, criticism rose, scandals fabricated, conservative shouts exploded. Yehya’s answer was “today’s problems cannot be erased by yesterday’s solutions”[9][10]

"It is time to break the silence, the wind of change must storm, and a new vibe will rule the world that will openly discuss the future generation’s needs". The press which once attacked and criticized his work started debating the ideas he presented.[11]

people came around and the generation he spoke to listened. More people understood the messages and depth of his work. It was a pleasure to find people defending his work and interpreting it.

In an interview Yehya says "I am responsible of presenting an idea for discussion and debate, it is up to the viewer to think and present his interpretation…","Difference of opinion presents a healthy society, we cannot all think in the same way"[12]
