NOTE: THIS IS TO BE ADDED TO THE ARTICLE: KRISTEN LAWRENCE.
Lawrence tapped on Poe’s chamber door with her 2012 CD release, Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven," arranged for pipe organ and strings. Her ethereal soprano voice performs all 18 verses of the famous poem as if sung by the ghost of Lenore. Kristen’s gift for writing memorably melodic music showcases the undying beauty of Poe’s words – an elegant combination that has won raves from Halloween haunters, horror fans, and Poe lovers of all ages.[1]
But not only is Kristen’s musical setting beautiful, it is a study and analysis of Poe’s famous poem. Lawrence's growing reputation as a Halloween specialist, as well as her classical training, makes her the appropriate artist to set “The Raven” to music. Her essay – A Musical Setting of Edgar Allan Poe’s "The Raven” – describes how she crafted her composition as a series of vignettes with themes woven throughout to reflect the rhythm and meaning of the poem. Lawrence then adapted the information and music into a lesson plan to use music to better understand "The Raven,"[2] to be enjoyed by teachers and serious Poe scholars, and, of course, lovers of Halloween and the macabre.
