History[edit] edit

The chain was founded in 1854 by William Dierberg. In 1929, William turned the business over to his three sons, Bill, Fred & Vallie (Butch). The following year, the company moved into a new building in Creve Coeur. By 1968, the chain had 3 stores. In 2013, it opened its first location outside of the St. Louis metro when it expanded to Osage Beach, Missouri, near the Lake of the Ozarks. In 2012 the Des Peres location in Missouri reformatted their location to fit the needs of four growing areas of interest within the store that being frozen food or convenient meals, their options for wine, cooking education, and general physical health.
