“More” is a song by South Korean rapper and songwriter J-Hope of boy band BTS, released as a single on July 1, 2022, on the label Big Hit Entertainment. “More” was the first single to be released from J-Hope’s debut album Jack in the Box (album). It is a rap-rock track, set to a boom-bap beat and featuring guitar-led rock instrumentation in the chorus.[1] (Source 2) The lyrics, in Korean and English, deal with J-Hope’s drive to achieve even greater career success, made explicit in the line, ‘My work makes me breathe, so I want more.’

Background

edit

In an interview with Variety magazine published on July 15th, 2022, the release day of ‘Jack in the Box,’ J-Hope explained his reasons for choosing ‘More’ as the first single release from the album, saying, ‘There is definitely a clear reason why I chose “More” as the first track to be released. I wanted to express a little bit of a darker side of me, as J-Hope, as an individual. This song is very powerful, and actually the feeling that you might have got when you first listened to this song is probably…reflected on all the other tracks in the album.’

‘More’ was co-written by J-Hope and Ivan Jackson Rosenberg and produced by the production company Brasstracks. Jackson also played most of the instruments on the track, with Pdogg playing guitar and additional drum production. The song was recorded at Hope World and The Rock Pit studios in Seoul, South Korea.
